Chapter 1
My boyfriend, Shao Rubai, was, in the eyes of outsiders, a handsome, diligent, and high-quality second-generation rich kid. He started his own company through his capabilities, worked hard, and was never a playboy. Everyone who knew him envied me for snagging such a catch.
But only I knew that Shao Rubai was a possessive control freak. He arranged for me to work at his company, ensuring I was always within his sight. He tried to cut off my interactions with others as much as possible, yet he never introduced me to his friends. He would also check my call records and chat messages. If it was a man, he’d give me the silent treatment. If I met with a woman, I had to report her information, and afterward, I had to tell him the details of our conversation.
Shao Rubai’s personality might make him the most popular “sickly dominant CEO” in romance novels, but in real life, it was like a twisted version of “Don’t Talk to Strangers.” I felt suffocated with him. I once thought about quitting my job to leave him for good, but he pulled out the contract I signed when I joined the company. Hidden within the normal clauses was a stipulation: if I resigned without his permission, I would immediately incur a massive penalty.
I had been too careless then, and now I realized I had fallen into a devil’s trap. No matter how much he claimed to love me, I no longer wanted to be with him and become a doll for him to manipulate. We argued on the way home, and then came the car accident. Both of us ended up in the hospital. I only had minor injuries and woke up quickly.
Shao Rubai hit his head and asked who I was when he woke up. I was stunned, various chaotic and unrealistic scenarios playing out in my mind. I stammered a few “uhs” before managing to blurt out, “I-I’m Lin Nanlu, I’m your… assistant.” Shao Rubai didn’t doubt me, naturally adopting his boss persona and asking me to get his phone.
“Your phone… was crushed in the accident.”
His phone was in my bag, but I couldn’t give it to him; it contained photos of us together. If he truly had amnesia, wouldn’t I have a chance to escape him?
“Then call Shi Song, he’s my best friend and knows all my information.”
“Alright, boss.” I grabbed my bag and quickly got up, leaving Shao Rubai’s side. A bold idea had taken root in my heart.
