Chapter 4
I deliberately turned over, letting my leg fall “accidentally” onto Li Kai. He was sleeping soundly and didn’t react.
Carefully, I took his phone from beside his pillow, tiptoed out of the bedroom, and went into the study.
I thought I would have to work to unlock his phone, but to my surprise, the password hadn’t changed.
I hesitated.
Perhaps I really was being too sensitive today.
I took a deep breath and decided to look anyway.
If I had truly wronged him, I could apologize.
I opened WeChat and searched for keywords: “miss you,” “love you,” “kisses,” “goodnight,” “red envelope,” “hotel,” “fancy dinner”…
Besides my chats with him, there was nothing unusual.
I checked his WeChat transaction history; no suspicious transfers or red envelopes.
The details in his wallet showed nothing out of the ordinary.
His payment receipts were clean, too.
I then checked his photo albums and cloud storage, but found no suspicious or intimate photos.
Perhaps I really was overthinking things.
I let out a sigh of relief.
I found Su Yuluo’s WeChat in his company’s group chat. Li Kai had saved her contact name as her full name. Everything seemed normal.
But why was their chat history completely empty, and why were her notifications set to silent?
This was a classic case of trying to hide something in plain sight…
I tried to rest my eyes, but my mind kept replaying the tender, doting way he looked at Su Yuluo at the hospital, the way she subtly tugged at his sleeve, and the resentful look in her eyes as I walked away with him.
These scenes flashed in my mind, a small mountain pressing on my heart, suffocating me.
But with no chat logs, I had nothing to go on. I felt an unprecedented sense of loss and frustration.
Even the air around me felt suffocating.
I couldn’t calm down. After taking a deep breath, I opened my eyes to turn off the phone. As I was closing the apps, I saw a shopping app icon.
On a whim, I opened it and checked his pending deliveries, pending payments, items to be reviewed, and his order history. Everything looked perfectly normal.
Was he just that good at hiding things?
Or was I truly mistaken?
My finger paused on a random past order for a pair of shoes he had bought some time ago. I looked at it and laughed at myself.
Maybe I was just too sensitive.
As I was exiting, I accidentally tapped on “More” in the bottom left corner, and a “Deleted Orders” option popped up.
As if guided by some unseen force, I clicked it. A dialog box appeared: “Confirm deletion of this order? Deleted orders can be restored from the recycle bin on a computer.”
A bad feeling crept over me. I turned on the computer, my palms growing sweaty.
The low hum of the computer starting up made me both nervous and wary.
I peeked at the study door. There was no sound, but I was still uneasy.
Taking off my shoes, I left the study and tiptoed to the bedroom door, which I had deliberately left slightly ajar.
I leaned against the wall, my palms sweating more and more, my own heartbeat pounding in my ears.
Holding my breath, I listened carefully. The only sound from the bedroom was Li Kai’s snoring, rising and falling.
Good, he was still asleep.
I quietly returned to the study, opened the shopping platform on the computer, went to “My Orders,” found the “Order Recycle Bin,” and restored everything. Then I opened “My Orders” again.
Rows of past purchase records appeared before my eyes. I was stunned.
Luxurious matching couple’s rings that were not on my finger.
A variety of expensive designer handbags I had never seen.
Sets upon sets of sexy outfits that were not at all my style.
…
My mind automatically conjured images from these items-sweet, tender, thrilling, wild.
The hand holding the mouse was shaking.
From our blind date, to falling in love, to our engagement, to our wedding, and even the year of trust and affection we had built since-in that moment, it all shattered into a million pieces.
I covered my mouth, afraid to cry out loud.
I even regretted looking at his phone. If only he had changed the password…
