Chapter 12
As soon as the morning handover was over, I clocked out.
Today, I was going to meet someone-Qin Hao, Su Yuluo’s current boyfriend.
The first time I saw him, he was exactly as the file described: an honest and reserved-looking skilled worker.
When I laid all the evidence before him, his face contorted in disbelief.
He said I was slandering his girlfriend and that he would never believe Su Yuluo could do such a thing.
“I suspect that right now, your girlfriend is still at my house.”
My face was full of sympathy, feeling both pity for the cuckolded man before me and amusement at my own situation.
“Did you install cameras?” Qin Hao asked, still holding out hope.
“This all happened so suddenly, I didn’t have time to prepare by installing cameras,” I sighed helplessly.
“So, this is all just your speculation. I trust my girlfriend, and I won’t doubt our relationship based on the baseless accusations of a stranger.”
Qin Hao said this as if he had to summon a great deal of courage.
I took out my phone, opened the smart body fat scale app, and skipped past the data on basal metabolic rate, body fat percentage, and muscle mass. I stopped the screen on the time and weight readings.
Last night at 8:00 PM, 45kg. At 11:00 PM, 46kg. This morning at 7:30 AM, 44kg.
“They must have had a late-night snack or something last night. If you still don’t believe me, you can call her to confirm.”
I looked at Qin Hao calmly. His disbelief was turning into hesitation and uncertainty.
After two minutes, he took out his phone and dialed a number, putting it on speaker.
“What’s wrong, honey?”
A sweet and lazy female voice, with a hint of flirtation, came through. It was undoubtedly Su Yuluo.
“It’s the weekend, isn’t it? I miss you. Let’s meet up.”
Qin Hao was testing her, but I could tell he was still clinging to a sliver of hope.
“But I have a cold. I’ll come find you in a couple of days when I’m better. I don’t want to get you sick.”
After saying this, Su Yuluo deliberately sniffled and coughed twice.
“Then I’ll come to your dorm and bring you some medicine.” As Qin Hao said this, his face began to harden.
“No… no need. I went back to my hometown. I’ll come find you after work on Monday, okay, honey?”
Su Yuluo was trying her best to cover up, but we could both hear the slight panic in her voice.
“Okay, sure. I’m working overtime these two days anyway. I’ll see you on Monday then.”
Qin Hao hung up immediately.
“She said she went back to her hometown, not that she’s in her hometown.”
A trace of sadness filled Qin Hao’s eyes, as if he were talking to himself. “Why did you tell me all this? And why do you have a smart scale in your house?”
The scale… I had bought the smart body fat scale with the thought of possibly trying for a baby in the future, hoping to ensure a healthy pregnancy. I never thought it would be useful in this way.
“I want to save my marriage, but your girlfriend doesn’t seem to feel the same way.”
As I said this, I secretly pinched my thigh, forcing out a few tears to play the part of a desperate, abandoned wife on the verge of losing her husband.
In our society, a man who cheats can be forgiven by most women.
But if a man is cheated on, almost no one will choose to forgive him, regardless of his wealth, job, or social status.
“Take me there,” Qin Hao said. I maintained my sorrowful expression, but inside, my heart was laughing.
Humans are strange creatures. No one wants something like this to happen to them.
At first, they refuse to believe it. But once it’s confirmed, their curiosity and even their desire for revenge can be magnified infinitely.
Because those who break the rules, in their pursuit of excitement, conveniently ignore the consequences of violating the exclusivity of love.
They even arrogantly believe they’ve hidden it so well that they’ll never be found out.
I gently pushed open the door, and then I saw it-a scene that would be seared into my memory for the rest of my life.
