The 30-Day Divorce Countdown - Chapter 14
Another half a year passed, and I saw the man post a photo of his marriage certificate.
I silently gave it a like.
Sure enough, after that like, his company frequently ordered coffee from us.
The reason being his wife liked the taste here.
I was still happy about having a big client.
Then, a major incident happened with Leo.
I heard that Jane, in a daze, went to Leo’s office.
At first, she was normally asking Leo what he wanted for lunch, but suddenly, in front of the investors, she pulled a knife out of her bag.
She asked Leo when he would marry her.
Then she went on a rampage, destroying the office furniture, scaring the investors into fleeing.
Emily described the scene as simply chaotic.
Leo’s face turned green with anger.
In the end, Leo called the police and had Jane arrested.
Just two days after things calmed down, Jane’s brother came with a group of people, demanding an explanation from Leo.
Emily heard that Leo temporarily settled the matter with money.
But she speculated that, given Jane’s brother’s thug-like demeanor, it was uncertain when this would end.
After all, they had tasted the sweetness of it.
Within a few days, many people resigned.
Mainly out of fear that something might happen later and they could get caught in the crossfire; life was precious.
Emily was planning to switch jobs too.
She said that after the incident, companies offered good salaries to take in the heartbroken colleagues from Leo’s company.
She couldn’t help but laugh as she mentioned that her new company’s salary was quite decent.
“Ms. Sophia, this really proves the saying, ‘A man who wrongs his wife will never prosper.'”
I recalled the first year after Leo and I got married.
He bought a figurine that promised prosperity if you listened to your wife.
He kept it in his office every day.
Later, I don’t know when, someone broke it, and he never placed it there again.
And now, even in my memories, Leo’s face was blurred.
Emily looked at me, hesitantly gossiping:
“Sophia, aren’t you curious about how Leo and Jane got involved?”
I answered honestly, “I was curious.
“But even without Jane, there would have been someone else.
“No matter the scene or environment at the time, it was just an excuse for him to cheat.”
After seeing Emily off, just before closing the shop, Leo came.
He was wearing a slightly wrinkled white shirt, with a hint of alcohol on him.
He looked in poor spirits, his voice hoarse.
“Sophia, could I have a glass of water?”
I had someone bring him a glass of water.
Not long after, the shop closed.
He followed me all the way to my car, and as I got in, he said he missed the child.
Could he ride in my car to go see him?
“Sorry, he’s at my mom’s today, and won’t be back anytime soon. You can visit him according to the agreement.”
His face was pale, and after a few coughs, he hurriedly called out to me.
“Sophia.
“I was wrong, I’m sorry, I’m not a good person, I let you down, I let our son down.
“Can you forgive me? If we can start over, I can put all the assets in your name.”
I shook my head at Leo.
He stepped forward, grabbing the car door, breathing heavily.
“I can swear, I can promise, if it happens again, I’ll leave with nothing. I was really drunk back then, caught up in the moment, feeling life was too bland.
“When I mentioned divorce, I never thought you’d agree right away, I thought you’d blame me, scold me. I was foolish, not appreciating such a good life.
“But I truly love you, Sophia, you have to believe…”
I interrupted, “Leo, I have a lot to do, I don’t have time for this.
“Whether you’re here to appease the investors or if you truly regret it, it doesn’t matter to me.
“What matters is, to me, you’re forever in the past tense.”
Leo’s lips were pressed tightly, turning white, he wanted to speak again.
I impatiently interrupted.
“Leo, let’s end it here, if I say more, it won’t be polite.”
He suddenly hurriedly pulled out his phone, showing me a small Weibo account.
“Sophia, I know you won’t forgive me, but I swear, my first time with Jane was truly an accident.
“This is my small account, it records our life over the years, up to the affair, it’s all on there.”
He kept talking, flipping through it, and amidst the shaking, I could see many candid photos he took of my back, and words expressing deep love.
Until he was frequently busy with work, worried about the company’s development.
I turned away, no longer looking at him, preparing to drive away.
Leo hurriedly tossed the phone into the car.
