The 30-Day Divorce Countdown - Chapter 13
Two months later, Emily came to visit me with a big pile of snacks.
She said she was originally planning to quit her job to indulge in binge eating for comfort.
But now she didn’t need to, so she brought the snacks for me to enjoy.
I served her coffee.
I asked her what made her so happy.
She said she was finally free from Jane’s oppression, laughing so hard she twisted like a pretzel.
“Ms. Sophia, you wouldn’t believe it. Just last week, Jane secretly announced she was going to get a marriage certificate with Leo. I had already written my resignation letter.
“But then, this morning, a man stormed into the company, grabbed Jane, and started hitting her, accusing her of cheating.
“He was shouting everywhere, asking where Leo was, saying he was a homewrecker ruining a marriage.
“At first, some colleagues tried to stop him, but the man threw out a bunch of photos. Ugh, they were disgusting.
“Later, others could only pretend to help, just pulling a little here and there.
“Leo was in the office at the time but didn’t come out. Later, the secretary said the man maliciously photoshopped the pictures and had him kicked out.
“I saw someone following him, probably to discuss the matter.”
From this incident, it seems Leo won’t be getting a marriage certificate with Jane.
He hates being deceived, especially with a scandal like being a homewrecker.
Even though he tried to seal the news.
The rival company found out.
Used it as material to undermine him.
Leo’s image plummeted.
He had previously endorsed the company’s products, and all endorsement photos were taken down.
To prevent the situation from spreading, he bribed Jane’s husband to come out and apologize, admitting he fabricated the photos.
Jane also left the company.
Emily said she got divorced too, and her ex-husband took a large sum of money.
Leo visited the child a few times during this period.
He looked exhausted.
Sometimes he wanted to stay for dinner, but I refused.
He stood at the door, hesitating: “Sophia, is there any chance for us to start over?”
I looked at him and shut the door with a snap.
Every time a friend called, they said they wanted to introduce a boyfriend to me.
I declined several times.
Nowadays, making money feels more reliable and comforting.
“Oh, Sophia, you can’t lose hope in love.”
“It’s not really disappointment. I’m not opposed to it, but I don’t yearn for it.”
Not long after, she brought a very charming man to my shop.
He was gentle and polite.
We got to know each other briefly.
Both the man and I were too busy, often having no time to chat.
My friend was anxious: “Sophia, aren’t you moved by such a catch?!”
I laughed: “Busy.”
My friend sighed helplessly.
I lowered my head to calculate the costs of opening a new branch.
