Taboo Mage - Chapter 36 - Li Mi in Trouble
A trace of displeasure flashed across Uncle Qin’s face.
I noticed that the person in the driver’s seat was Brother Kai, who was possessed, and in the passenger seat sat a heavily made-up foreign girl.
The sports car stopped at the villa’s entrance, and Brother Kai swaggered out of the car, hugging the foreign girl as they walked inside.
I was astonished; no wonder the Evil Spirit was clinging to Brother Kai’s body and refusing to leave. Who wouldn’t want to stay in such a handsome and wealthy body?
It was just like in those rebirth novels where a male loser wakes up as a crown prince, with plenty of women and money waiting for him to squander.
“Uncle Qin, is Wu Qian just going to let this continue?” I asked in a low voice.
Uncle Qin shook his head with a wry smile; what else could she do?
I nodded in agreement, imagining that Wu Qian must be seething with anger. To wake up and find the person you deeply loved turning into this must be unbearable for anyone.
Thinking of this, I pulled Jue Chi’s sleeve and asked him again if he could really handle the Evil Spirit.
Jue Chi remained aloof, not bothering to reply to me.
The inside of the villa was the same as before. As soon as we entered, we saw Brother Kai on the sofa, holding the foreign girl, their posture suggestive. Wu Qian sat opposite them, her face ashen with suppressed rage, her teeth nearly grinding to pieces.
Seeing Brother Kai, a memory of the ghostly claw piercing my chest flickered through my mind, making me shiver, and I unconsciously moved closer to Jue Chi.
“What? Trying to find a stinking monk to exorcize me?” Brother Kai looked up at Jue Chi without the slightest fear, even raising a challenging eyebrow and smiling.
Wu Qian’s face remained cold, “I don’t want to harm you, just give me back my husband.”
“What nonsense are you talking about? I am Zheng Kai, Zheng Kai is me!” the Evil Spirit replied with a mocking grin.
Wu Qian gave him a cold glance, then stood up and walked over to Jue Chi, “I would appreciate your help, Master.”
I signaled Wu Qian and Uncle Qin with my eyes, and the three of us retreated to the door. Jue Chi stepped forward, chanting a Buddhist chant.
“Misguided spirit, when a person dies, his light is extinguished. Why linger in this world instead of entering the cycle of reincarnation?”
“Stinking monk.”
The Evil Spirit sneered and pushed the foreign girl away as he stood up.
I didn’t know how powerful the Evil Spirit that had almost fully occupied someone else’s body was, but I knew I was definitely no match for him.
Therefore, as soon as Jue Chi raised his head, I drew my peachwood sword and held it in front of me, attempting to protect myself.
Jue Chi started reciting a Sutra quickly, then threw his Buddhist prayer beads. These beads, having been consecrated before the statue of Buddha and blessed by Jue Chi’s continual chanting, held considerable spiritual power.
The beads circled in the air and accurately struck Brother Kai. Then the beads broke apart, with the small sandalwood orbs sticking to Brother Kai’s body.
Instantly, the room was filled with golden light, and Jue Chi’s voice chanting the Sutra seemed amplified. I covered my ears tightly but could still feel the vibrations in my eardrums.
Hit by the prayer beads, the Evil Spirit writhed in pain on the ground. Jue Chi then extended his hand and shouted at me, “Soul-capturing bottle!”
Without thinking about how he knew about the soul-capturing bottle, I instinctively handed him the bottle I always carried with me.
Jue Chi used his right hand to draw a rune in mid-air, then chanted into the soul-capturing bottle. He quickly stepped forward and aimed the bottle at the Evil Spirit.
The Evil Spirit let out a painful wail; its spirit, pulled by the powerful force of the soul-capturing bottle, was extracted from Brother Kai’s body and turned into black smoke that was sucked into the bottle.
I hurriedly sealed the bottle, which vibrated a few times before calming down, just like last time. Worried that the bottle might not hold the Evil Spirit again, I told Jue Chi about what happened before.
Jue Chi took out a string of Buddhist prayer beads from his large Kasaya and handed them to Wu Qian, instructing her to place them on Brother Kai’s wrist. He then wrapped the soul-capturing bottle with his Kasaya.
I asked Jue Chi what would happen to the Evil Spirit in the end.
Jue Chi told me that he would take the soul-capturing bottle back to Chan Guang Monastery, placing it before the Buddha and reciting scriptures day and night in the hope of exorcising it soon.
Though I didn’t fully agree with Jue Chi’s approach, he had been an enormous help this time, so I handed the Evil Spirit over to him, allowing him to deal with it as he saw fit.
Uncle Qin took Jue Chi back, and I stayed behind to speak with Wu Qian a bit more before finally heading back home.
The incident with Brother Kai had drained a lot of my energy, so I informed Lin Huan that I wouldn’t be taking any new business for a while and retreated to my room to recuperate.
I had secretly asked Jue Chi if Brother Kai would ever wake up again.
Jue Chi told me that I needed to make a new life amulet for Brother Kai to wear day and night. However, given the prolonged period the Evil Spirit had occupied his body, his spirit had suffered damage. Whether he could wake up was now up to fate.
I sighed with a sense of remorse.
One day, after delivering the new life amulet for Brother Kai to the villa, I returned to the shop only to find Xu-Jie sitting on my couch, her face livid.
I teased her with a smile, “How come you don’t have to stay with your husband today and have time to visit me?”
Xu-Jie shot me a glare and said coldly, “Stay with what husband? He’s out consorting with prostitutes!”
I was startled. With such a stunning beauty by his side, he still sought out prostitutes? I asked Xu-Jie to take off the peach blossom amulet she was wearing so I could examine it, but I couldn’t find anything unusual.
While I was still puzzled, Xu-Jie received a phone call. Her face turned ashen, and she dragged me out the door.
Sensing something was seriously wrong, I followed Xu-Jie as she drove to the hospital. We walked quickly to the ward area.
Xu-Jie went straight to one ward, opened the door, and I froze at the sight before me.
Inside the ward, Li Mi smiled sweetly and waved at me.
“Li… Li Mi?” I stammered.
Suddenly, Li Mi jumped out of bed and began banging her head against the wall.
Xu-Jie rushed over and wrapped her arms tightly around Li Mi’s waist. Faced with this chaotic scene, I was at a loss.
“What are you standing there for? Go get the doctor!” Xu-Jie’s shout snapped me out of it, and I dashed out to find a doctor. The doctor arrived quickly and sedated Li Mi.
“Doctor, what’s wrong with her?” Xu-Jie asked worriedly once Li Mi calmed down.
The doctor lifted Li Mi’s eyelids to examine her and then shook his head. “Are you family members? The patient seems to have suffered some sort of shock. Why has she suddenly become this unhinged without any apparent reason?”
