Taboo Mage - Chapter 175 - The Strength of Kin
I sensed an opportunity in the situation, but it was my own anxiousness that made me overlook how Li Zhiqiang’s resentment had already permeated the entire room.
Fortunately, it was sealed within the cement walls; otherwise, I feared the entire neighborhood would be engulfed by Li Zhiqiang’s rage. At that point, we would probably need to gather all the eminent monks in the country to exorcise his soul.
That would surely be a tremendous hassle.
On the other hand, if Li Zhiqiang’s body wasn’t sealed in those cement walls, his resentment wouldn’t be so great.
Things in this world are always subject to Cause and Effect. Perhaps, in the grand scheme of things, the development of every event has already been predetermined.
So what about us, the Gu Family? Has our fate also been destined by the heavens long ago…
Before long, a tall and robust man emerged from the elevator and walked straight toward us, while the door of the opposite room swung open again.
I looked at the two in confusion, wondering what the woman was planning to do.
She opened the security door and, after the man approached, said, “This is my boyfriend. You all can come in.”
Saying this, she opened the door wider. Jue Chi led the way at the front, with the rest of us following closely behind as we entered.
As soon as we stepped into the room, my compass started spinning wildly. I glanced down at the compass again, then closed my eyes to recite an incantation to sense the energy around.
Sure enough, the resentment in the room was almost palpable, almost as if it were an additional layer of air. It would be no wonder if nightmares plagued her.
The woman had changed into a pullover sweater, wrapping her entire body in it.
Once we were all inside the room, she asked Jue Chi, “Is this Master? What you said at the door was true. Is there any way to resolve this?”
Jue Chi stepped back, bowing his head as he replied, “We have come to address this matter.”
The woman nodded and fell silent, pulling her boyfriend to sit on the sofa, allowing us to move about the room as needed.
I pulled out two runes from my backpack and affixed them to the Village Chief and Suzhen before using the cinnabar pen to mark the center of the runes, showing them how to sense Li Zhiqiang’s resentment.
Jue Chi held the Buddhist prayer beads in his hand, wandered around the room, and eventually focused his gaze on a wall. I was busy using the compass to search, and when the compass aligned with the wall in front of Jue Chi, I couldn’t help but marvel.
It had only been a few days since our last meeting, yet Jue Chi’s Taoist cultivation seemed to have deepened considerably.
I exchanged a glance with Jue Chi, placing my palm against the wall to take a feel. A chill quickly spread from my palm through my limbs and bones.
Li Zhiqiang’s body was sealed in there.
Jue Chi stepped back, his fingers moving the Buddhist prayer beads as he bowed his head, quietly reciting a Sutra. I stuffed the compass into my backpack and signaled for the Village Chief and Suzhen to come over.
They seemed to realize something was up; the Village Chief rushed over first, anxiously asking me, “Is it in here? Can we break down this wall?”
Before I could respond, the woman’s boyfriend suddenly stood up, saying in a deep voice, “No! That wall is a load-bearing wall; absolutely do not break it down!”
I nodded in agreement, adding, “Uncle Li, we can’t break this wall, and… the body is already rotting inside it. Even if we broke it down, it would be useless.”
Upon hearing my words, Uncle Li’s eyes reddened instantly. His rough hands clasped together as he stood in front of me, bowed his head in silence.
I couldn’t stand seeing such a scene. After a moment, I comfortingly said, “Uncle Li, don’t forget why we are here. We already agreed that the body cannot be recovered no matter what.”
“You mean there’s a body inside that wall?” The woman sitting on the sofa suddenly stood up, her face pale as she spoke, her voice trembling with fear.
I nodded. This was not something I could hide anymore, so I decided to be straightforward with the truth.
The woman gasped and collapsed into her boyfriend’s embrace. I sighed and shook my head, pulling things out of my backpack.
There was a wooden amulet made of Chinese scholar tree wood, shaped like a human face, with a portrait drawn on it in cinnabar by Jue Chi himself. I also took out red string, yellow talisman paper, and glutinous rice soaked in black dog blood.
Once I had everything ready, I instructed the Village Chief and Suzhen to stand on either side of the wall. Then, I used the red string to tie a hexagonal dharma array on the wall, placing a basin filled with glutinous rice in the center of the array and firmly inserting the life amulet in the middle.
With the preparations completed, I sat cross-legged in front of the dharma array, forming a complex dharma seal with my hands while reciting an incantation.
Before long, the red string clasped in Suzhen and the Village Chief’s hands began to tremble. Even the bell on top of the red string array started ringing chaotically.
A buzzing filled my ears, and cold sweat started to bead on my forehead.
Suddenly, a loud bang echoed through the room!
I felt the air around me vibrate unexpectedly. Although I was sitting on the floor, the sudden tremor caught me off guard, and I lost my balance, falling to the ground.
Jue Chi quickly stepped forward to help me up.
I raised the compass in my hands, aligning its face with the wall opposite us, and finally, the wall, which had been swirling like a tide, grew still.
“Monk! Come help!” I called out, handing the compass to Jue Chi. I then stepped forward, biting my finger to draw some blood, which I smeared onto the human-faced life amulet.
As the amulet absorbed the blood, it shook a few times in the basin of glutinous rice. I recited the incantation, watching as dark energy twisted and coiled around the wall, but it remained stubbornly clinging to the surface.
“Uncle Li! Call your son’s name!”
As soon as the words left my mouth, the Village Chief, still holding the red string, was suddenly unsteady and cried out, “Zhiqiang!” He broke into tears.
The sound of his cry twisted my heart, making my hand tremble as I held the dharma formula.
Jue Chi placed a supportive hand on my shoulder. Once I regained my balance, I turned my gaze to Suzhen, whose face was ashen, lost in thought.
I inwardly sighed, realizing that in critical moments, I really couldn’t rely on women to help-it’s a miracle if they weren’t a hindrance.
“You man! What are we supposed to do now that you’re dead?” Suzhen suddenly shouted, tears streaming down her face.
I stared in shock at the sudden outburst. Just then, Jue Chi slapped my shoulder, urging me to look at the wall.
The dark energy that had been hovering above the wall began to swirl in response to Suzhen’s heartbreaking cries. It circled the wall once before following the red string down like a serpent, finally hovering above the life amulet and then diving into it.
