Taboo Mage - Chapter 139 - The Third Person Disappears
It might be because it has only been in possession of the life amulet for a short time, but it can only muster a bit of human language in dire emergencies. Now that the little fox is no longer in danger, getting it to speak again is nearly an impossible task.
I carried the little fox to the bed to rest and instructed it carefully to hide for the time being and to absolutely ensure that no one discovers it has returned, especially Du Jun.
That backstabbing bastard! Just thinking about him made me grind my teeth in anger!
After I had settled the little fox, my next task was to confront Du Jun! Of course, it would be even better if I could extract from him where Jue Chi and Chi Rui were being held.
If I couldn’t get that information, at least I could vent my frustration!
The next morning, as soon as I got up, I rushed next door and sure enough, Du Jun was still there. I charged at him and landed a punch right on his face.
I put all my strength into that punch, and afterward, my own fist was tingling slightly.
Du Jun, however, ended up with a bloody mouth and a right cheek swollen badly. Liao Qing, clueless about the situation, tried to pull me away, continuously urging me to calm down.
But how could I calm down now?
I shrugged off Liao Qing’s hold and charged again, kicking Du Jun several times while shouting, “You bastard! I brought a whole group of people all this way to rescue you! And you, damn it, conspired with that scoundrel to deceive me! Bastard! Ungrateful wolf!”
The more I cursed, the more fired up I got, leaving Liao Qing stunned by the side, while Du Jun didn’t utter a single word, curled up on the ground, letting me beat and scold him.
After I had enough, I sat down on a nearby sofa to rest, while Liao Qing helped Du Jun to his feet. Seeing him looking as pitiful as a quail, I couldn’t help but kick him again in the legs, causing him to almost collapse to the floor.
Liao Qing cautiously glanced at me, then helped Du Jun sit on the bed. I grabbed a cup and gulped down some water, then demanded Du Jun explain exactly what had happened.
Du Jun stammered as he explained that he had indeed been tricked by his agent, his ex-girlfriend, to come to Thailand. When he realized that both his physical and mental health were deteriorating, he flew back to Thailand.
Master Taka told him that he was the only one in the world who could save him, but there was a condition: he had to find a way to trick me into going to Bangkok.
I listened from start to finish, realizing how I had been made a fool. Even Liao Qing, listening beside me, shook his head in disbelief and shifted away from Du Jun.
What Du Jun said was almost identical to what Master Taka had told me. The current dilemma was whether I should save Jue Chi and Chi Rui by giving up the chance to lift the Gu Family’s backlash curse, or abandon Jue Chi and Chi Rui to ensure the peaceful future of the Gu family descendants.
This issue troubled me for two whole days, until the little fox started to recover. I persistently tried to teach the little fox to speak, but it made no progress, which only made me more anxious.
With a week almost up and still no signs of Jue Chi and Chi Rui, one evening, as I was restlessly chatting with the little fox, my eyes fell on the life amulet around its neck, and a thought struck me.
When I made the life amulet for the little fox, I also made one for everyone to understand the little fox’s words, acting as a kind of intermediary like a phone station.
Could it be possible to bypass this intermediary and communicate directly with someone on the other side?
With this idea, I immediately got up, placed the little fox in the center of the red string array, and initiated the incantation, attempting to contact Jue Chi through the little fox.
After more than an hour of no response, just as I was about to give up, I suddenly heard a familiar voice-Jue Chi’s voice, a sound I hadn’t heard in days!
“Qingshu?” Jue Chi’s voice was still clear and pleasing, bringing comfort even as a telepathic sound.
“You bald monk! Where have you been?” I yelled in my mind.
“I’m in a mountain villa of Taka’s. He captured us to force you into doing something. You mustn’t agree to him.”
That’s just how Jue Chi is-always thinking of others, even in peril.
I asked a few more questions before remembering something important. I inquired if Chi Rui was nearby, and Jue Chi told me that Chi Rui was locked in the next room.
I nodded, telling them to take care of themselves and promising to rescue them.
Before I could finish speaking, the connection abruptly cut off. Anxious to continue, I looked up to see the little fox panting heavily on the meditation cushion.
I felt a pang of regret, realizing I had been so focused on talking with Jue Chi that I nearly forgot the little fox was bearing the brunt of the backlash as an intermediary.
Moreover, it already had injuries. If I pushed it further, it might slip back into unconsciousness.
I put away the life amulet, gently carried the little fox to the bed, tucked it in, and sat alone by the bedside, contemplating how to resolve this issue.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. I got up to open it, finding Du Jun standing outside. Despite his bruised and swollen face, his naturally striking features now seemed to evoke more pity and grievance than disarray.
“What do you want?” I asked irritably, eyeing him at the door.
“Mr. Gu… I’m sorry. Is there anything I can do to help?” Du Jun said apologetically.
I snorted, “No need. Just don’t hold me back, and that would be more than enough.”
As I was about to shut the door, Du Jun quickly held onto the frame and said, “Jue Chi and Chi Rui, are they in the villa? I visited that place once before, I can take you there!”
I raised an eyebrow, scrutinizing him from head to toe. I believed every word he said was sincere, but unfortunately, I couldn’t even convince myself of it.
Once unfaithful, always mistrustful.
I let out a derisive laugh and slammed the door shut without hesitation.
The next morning, before I even had a chance to get out of bed, Liao Qing rushed in to tell me that Du Jun had disappeared.
I couldn’t help but feel a headache coming on. With two already missing people not yet found, and now losing another, I was about to tarnish the Gu Family’s reputation.
This couldn’t go on.
