chapter 5
Qi Sinian returned quickly.
A warm smile was forced onto his face.
“Are you hungry? What do you want to eat?”
“Should I go pick up Yanyan? We can go out together.”
“The three of us haven’t gone out as a family in a long time.”
…
“If you don’t want to go out, I’ll go buy some groceries and cook at home.”
“I’ll go check the kitchen and see what we have.”
He turned to leave.
I spoke calmly, “Your phone is ringing.”
“It’s rung several times. Aren’t you going to answer it?”
Qi Sinian froze in his tracks.
“It’s just work. It doesn’t matter. Today, I’m only here for you.”
“It’s ringing again. You should answer it.”
“No need…”
“Mine is ringing too. Let me see…”
But before I could even pick up my phone, Qi Sinian rushed over and snatched it away.
I looked at him, expressionless.
“What are you snatching it for?”
“What are you afraid of?”
“Why the panic?”
Qi Sinian’s face was incredibly tense.
His whole body was rigid.
“You know.”
I tucked the last flower into the vase and pushed it to the center of the dining table.
“Know what?”
“That you sent Tan Qingqing abroad to protect her?”
“That every time you went abroad, it was to see her?”
“That even when she stripped naked to seduce you, you didn’t touch her because you couldn’t bear to?”
I pulled his phone out of his pocket.
The phone rang once more.
I tapped to answer.
A girl’s helpless sobbing came through. “Uncle, I think someone broke into the house. What should I do? I’m so scared!”
Instantly, Qi Sinian’s breath hitched.
“Qingqing…”
His voice was thick with emotion-full of worry and panic.
But I didn’t give him a chance to say more; I hung up immediately.
Qi Sinian stared at me intently.
As if he had made up his mind, he turned to leave-this time, his goal was to get out the door.
So I said, “If something really happened to her, you’re too far away to make it in time.”
“How about I give you a chance?”
“Draft a divorce settlement that satisfies me, and I’ll give you a divorce.”
