Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Other people tried to reel someone in on the sly.
Jiang Baichuan did it right out in the open.
And his methods were terribly childish.
It wasn’t quite flirting, and it wasn’t quite pursuing her either. Every little thought in his heart was written all over his face, but he was too cowardly, afraid Yun Li would get angry, so he used the two children as his shield.
Yun Li was forced to take care of the children with him for more than a week.
Zhaozhao and Mumu fussed and clamored for Yun Li and Jiang Baichuan to pick them up from kindergarten together, so the teachers and parents at the kindergarten quickly grew familiar with their faces.
The teacher called out loudly, “Zhaozhao, Mumu, your uncle and aunt are here!”
A parent passing by muttered quietly, “A married couple picking up the kids together-pretty rare these days.”
“Right? I’m jealous. They’re such a good-looking pair. That girl is so lucky to have married a man like him.”
They were whispering right beside her, so it was impossible for Yun Li not to hear. “…”
It was already awkward enough, but Jiang Baichuan just had to respond, “I’m pretty lucky too.”
The parents next to them hadn’t expected Jiang Baichuan to join the conversation and hurriedly laughed. “Yes, yes, you’re a lucky guy, marrying such a beautiful wife.”
Yun Li: “…”
After picking up Zhaozhao and Mumu, Yun Li grabbed one of them in her arms and bolted.
Zhaozhao looked in confusion at Yun Li and Mumu, who had been carried away, then poked Jiang Baichuan in the thigh. “Did you make my future aunt mad again?”
Jiang Baichuan gave up on himself. “Probably. It’s fine. I’ll just take a beating when we get back.”
Zhaozhao giggled. “My daddy said that before too.”
Jiang Baichuan: “…”
Though speechless, he was in a good mood.
Even getting beaten was a kind of happiness.
Xia Wanzhi also knew Yun Li had been helping with the children. Since tonight was Friday, they all arranged to have hot pot together at Lanting Bieyuan.
The season of Frost’s Descent had already passed, and the weather had begun to turn chilly-perfect for hot pot.
When this family of four in all but name arrived, Xia Wanzhi opened the door and gave them an enthusiastic welcome. “Oh, you brought the whole family! No need to change shoes. Come in, come in!”
Yun Li shot her a reproachful glare and led Zhaozhao and Mumu inside.
The neglected Jiang Baichuan met Xia Wanzhi’s probing gaze and shrugged. “She hasn’t spoken to me in almost half an hour.”
Xia Wanzhi pointed at him. “You deserve it!”
Scheming man.
Back then, Xie Qiyan had also used Xie Tan to create all sorts of opportunities.
It was just that Xie Qiyan had been a little more advanced.
As for Jiang Baichuan…
There were no words.
Aside from not being able to tell which one was Zhaozhao and which one was Mumu, Jiang Baichuan was actually quite good at taking care of children. As expected of someone who had become an uncle in his early twenties and helped raise kids.
Yun Li had learned quite a lot from him.
Jiang Baichuan brought the children to wash their hands before they sat down at the table. While Yun Li helped Zhaozhao straighten her clothes, she chided, “Next time you wash their hands, you don’t need to pull their sleeves up that high. You nearly rolled them all the way to their shoulders.”
Copying Yun Li’s movements, Jiang Baichuan patiently straightened Mumu’s sleeves and said with a smile, “If I don’t pull them up high, they’ll start a water fight.”
Yun Li retorted, “Then why don’t they do that when I’m there?”
Jiang Baichuan raised a brow. “So I can’t manage without you.”
Yun Li: “…”
Xia Wanzhi: “Ahem, ahem.”
Xie Qiyan glanced at him and was just about to wonder whether this was really Jiang Baichuan, but then he thought about how he seemed to be the same sort of man himself, so he kept quiet.
Xie Tan secretly clapped, thinking this was double happiness arriving at the door.
The hot pot meal was warm and lively.
The two men were in the kitchen, and Xie Tan was playing with Zhaozhao and Mumu. Xia Wanzhi seized the chance to ask, “How does it feel?”
Yun Li laughed. “How does what feel?”
“Your heart fluttering, of course.” Xia Wanzhi made a heart with her hands over her chest and mimed it thumping twice. “A domineering CEO is chasing you so hard he’s losing brain cells.”
Yun Li was momentarily at a loss for words. “…”
Did her heart flutter?
She didn’t know how to describe it.
More than heart-fluttering, there was emotion. Familiarity.
And hesitation too.
“I remember you and Xie Qiyan used to be at each other’s throats. How did you later confirm that you liked him?” Yun Li rested an arm over Xia Wanzhi’s shoulder, turned to glance toward the kitchen, then lowered her shoulder and huddled close to whisper some private girl talk.
The kitchen was open-plan. From Xie Qiyan and Jiang Baichuan’s angle, the two of them looked extremely suspicious.
Xia Wanzhi grew a little shy and gave a light cough. “You’ll know after you kiss him.”
Yun Li: “…”
She had never realized Xia Wanzhi was so bold.
Xia Wanzhi suggested, “Try it.”
Yun Li politely declined. “Thank you, but no.”
Xia Wanzhi hugged her arm. “Trust me, this method works best. Your body will tell you the answer very honestly.”
Yun Li held her breath slightly, her face heating all over.
She sighed softly. “There’s no need to test it. I know what I feel.”
When a person couldn’t help wanting to get close to someone, or didn’t reject that person’s closeness, the answer was already clear.
When they left, the two of them each carried one sleeping child downstairs.
“You…”
“I…”
They spoke at the same time.
Jiang Baichuan chuckled. “You first.”
“Zhaozhao and Mumu are pretty easy to take care of,” Yun Li said softly, her tone tinged with emotion.
Jiang Baichuan made a sound of agreement and chatted with her about family matters. “They weren’t easy at one or two years old. They cried all the time, and when they cried, Jiang Yourong cried too. Rong Yu didn’t film anything during that period. He spent all his time attending parenting workshops and studying how to take care of children. But fortunately, we have a lot of relatives and friends, so everyone helped out, especially the elders in the family. They dote on them like crazy.”
Yun Li nodded and asked, “From what you’re saying, Zhaozhao and Mumu have quite a lot of family. So why… were they specifically handed over to you?”
Jiang Baichuan looked rather smug. “Because Zhaozhao and Mumu like handsome men.”
These two little girls clung to him. That was the truth.
Yun Li couldn’t help laughing. After getting into the car, she asked again, “Do Zhaozhao and Mumu’s family have any objections?”
Jiang Baichuan fastened his seat belt and lifted his eyes to meet hers. “Why would they?”
“You’re using the children to fool around.” Yun Li met his gaze. Both of their eyes were very direct.
After laying the groundwork for so long, he had finally waited for her to point it out.
Jiang Baichuan abruptly unbuckled his seat belt and leaned his whole body toward Yun Li. “It’s not fooling around. It’s support.”
Yun Li was slightly stunned.
“Everyone close to me knows I’m pursuing you.” Jiang Baichuan’s gaze was honest, his voice low. “Sending Zhaozhao and Mumu to the front lines was a unanimous decision after discussion.”
“Yun Li, give me a chance.”
