Six Years Later: Wrecking His World with Quadruplets - Chapter 207
Chapter 207
Three days passed in the blink of an eye, and it was finally the weekend.
Early that morning, Nan Zhiyi woke up and headed to the room next door to wake Hengheng and Wanwan.
To her surprise, when she pushed the door open, the bed was empty. The two little ones were nowhere to be found.
They’re awake this early?
Nan Zhiyi assumed they were downstairs, but after a quick sweep of the living room and still finding no sign of them, she asked Aunt Zhang.
Aunt Zhang replied, “Miss Sheng came by just now and picked them up.”
Nan Zhiyi was puzzled.
Why hadn’t Shiyu said anything to her when she came over? Besides, hadn’t they already made plans to go out today? The two little ones knew that, so why did they leave anyway?
Just as Nan Zhiyi was about to call Sheng Shiyu to ask what was going on, the doorbell rang.
Nan Zhiyi went to open the door, only to find Old Master Di standing outside with the two little ones, Xianxian and Mumu.
Nan Zhiyi was stunned. Forcing herself to remain calm, she asked, “Grandpa Di… what brings you here?”
Her gaze shifted to the children. “And… you two?”
Xianxian looked at his mommy with a grin and offered a crisp greeting. “Hello, Auntie.”
Standing beside him, Mumu couldn’t help herself the moment she saw her mommy. She lunged forward and hugged Nan Zhiyi’s leg, tilting her small face up with a sweet smile.
Her large eyes blinked repeatedly as if saying, Mommy, I missed you so much.
Nan Zhiyi suppressed a smile, thinking to herself, I missed you too.
She gently patted their heads. “Good morning.”
Old Master Di watched the natural interaction between the adult and the children with a profound look in his eyes.
He spoke up, “Before we came, the little ones said they had met you before. I didn’t believe them, but it turns out it’s true.”
Nan Zhiyi nodded. “We have. When Wanwan was sick, I happened to run into them at the hospital.”
As she spoke, she picked Mumu up and stepped aside to clear the way. “Grandpa Di, please come in and have a seat.”
“Alright,” Old Master Di replied as he walked inside.
By this time, Old Master Nan and the Old Madam were also up. Seeing Old Master Di’s arrival, they hurried to tell Aunt Zhang to serve tea.
Nan Zhiyi carried the child to the sofa and asked casually, “Have you two had breakfast yet?”
Xianxian nodded. “We’ve already eaten.”
Nan Zhiyi gave a slight nod.
She finally realized why Hengheng and Wanwan had left. It seemed the four little ones had conspired with Shiyu behind her back!
They had spirited two away so these two clever rascals could show up at her door.
They had certainly given her a massive surprise…
Thinking of this, Nan Zhiyi couldn’t help but steal another glance at the pair.
Catching their mommy’s gaze, the two little ones secretly made faces at her.
Nan Zhiyi was instantly amused, yet she found herself completely helpless against their antics.
Fearing that too much interaction might give them away, Xianxian pretended to look around curiously. “Auntie, where are your younger brother and sister? I don’t see them.”
Hearing this, Old Master Di also glanced toward the second floor. “That’s right, Girl, why don’t I see your two little ones? It’s perfect-call them over to play with Hengheng and Wanwan. Children need company; I’m sure they’ll get along great.”
Nan Zhiyi took the opportunity to explain, “What bad timing. The little ones were picked up by their godmother early this morning. We had originally agreed to take them to Ocean Park today.”
Xianxian’s large eyes sparkled as he feigned curiosity. “Ocean Park? Is that the place from the movies with lots of fish and fun things to do?”
“Yeah,” Nan Zhiyi replied, playing along.
Immediately after, she saw the two little ones looking back at her with expressions of intense longing. Their acting was as realistic as it could possibly be.
Old Master Nan and the Old Madam caught on to the plan and chimed in from the side. “Haven’t Hengheng and Wanwan ever been there?” the Old Master asked. “If they haven’t, they might as well go with Zhiyi. It’s no different taking two kids or four!”
Upon hearing this, Nan Zhiyi looked at the Old Master and spoke with some hesitation. “I’m not sure that’s a good idea. If anything happens, it’ll be hard to explain things to Di Shijing…”
Old Master Di’s intention today was specifically to bring the two children over so they could get closer to Nan Zhiyi. Since his grandson was as dense as a block of wood, he figured he’d have to rely on these two children to bridge the distance with the girl!
“It’s fine, take them with you.”
He immediately agreed, saying, “That boy, Jing, only knows how to work all day. Now that he’s gone on a business trip, he can’t even look after the children and just dumped them with me. Now that someone is willing to take them out, it saves me the trouble of entertaining them.”
“At their age, they should be out playing. It’ll be good for them to go out and see the world.”
Hearing this, the two little ones immediately looked up at Nan Zhiyi, their eyes sparkling as if asking, “Can we?”
Nan Zhiyi curved her lips into a slight smile and said naturally, “Since Grandpa Di says so, I’ll take them along.”
As soon as she spoke, the two little ones jumped for joy. Xianxian smiled happily and said politely, “Thank you, Auntie.”
Nan Zhiyi patted his head, went to have some breakfast, and then headed upstairs to change and get ready.
Before leaving, she said to Old Master Di, “Grandpa Di, I’ll take good care of the children. You just stay here and chat with my grandparents.”
A short while later, the three of them headed out.
Once the door closed, Old Master Di stood there somewhat dazed, a massive doubt rising in his heart.
He had previously assumed that Little Nan had met the children because she knew their identities, and he had secretly blamed that brat Jing for not saying anything. But during their interaction just now, it seemed like Little Nan didn’t know that Hengheng and Wanwan were her children!
What was going on?
For a moment, Old Master Di couldn’t wrap his head around the situation…
After Nan Zhiyi brought the two little ones out, she contacted Sheng Shiyu. “Where are you guys?”
Sheng Shiyu’s cheerful voice quickly came through. “We’ve been at Ocean Park for ages, just waiting for you! So? Was it smooth getting the little ones out?”
“Quite smooth. We’re already on our way. Find a place to sit for now, and we’ll meet at the entrance later.”
“Got it,” Sheng Shiyu agreed and hung up.
Nan Zhiyi drove them to Ocean Park. However, the mouths of the two little ones in the back seat never stopped moving as they chattered away. “Mommy, we’ve missed you so much lately. We think about you every night before we go to sleep.”
“Mommy missed you too.”
Nan Zhiyi’s heart melted into a puddle.
Come to think of it, this was the first time Xianxian and Mumu had been away from her for so long since they were born. Although they chatted every day and had the occasional video call, she still couldn’t help but miss them.
Xianxian and Mumu were delighted to hear that and continued their chatter. “Of course, even though we missed Mommy, we knew that Brother Hengheng and Sister Wanwan missed you even more… Compared to them, we’ve spent much more time by Mommy’s side in the past, so we suppressed our feelings about wanting to see you.”
“You’re both so good.”
Nan Zhiyi felt her heart softening even further. How could her babies be so sensible?
