Six Years Later: Wrecking His World with Quadruplets - Chapter 190
Chapter 190
Di Shijing pulled himself out of his thoughts and said to Aunt Zhang, “Come to think of it, I’ve never actually met Nan Zhiyi’s children.”
“If I recall correctly… they should only be three or four years old, right? At that age, they can already write such excellent calligraphy?”
Aunt Zhang’s heart skipped a beat.
She instinctively glanced at the calligraphy and painting, remembering Nan Zhiyi’s previous instructions not to reveal anything about the two little ones to others-especially the man standing before her.
At this moment, she couldn’t be sure if Di Shijing had become suspicious. She quickly explained, “The child is over four years old, and she did indeed write it.”
“Miss Nan hired a professional calligraphy teacher, supposedly a very famous figure, which is why she’s been able to practice so well. I don’t understand much about these things; I usually just handle the daily chores and living arrangements. If you have any questions, Mr. Di, perhaps you could ask Miss Nan later?”
“As for our Young Miss, she’s already asleep right now. If you’re interested, you can meet her next time there’s an opportunity.”
Hearing this, Di Shijing began to study her, seemingly trying to discern the truth of her words.
His gaze was cold and sharp, filled with scrutiny.
Aunt Zhang felt her heart pounding with fear, her hair standing on end as she dreaded being found out.
Just then, Nan Zhiyi suddenly sat up, drawing both of their attention.
Her cheeks were still flushed with a slight drunken glow. As she took her first step, she stumbled.
Aunt Zhang rushed over to support her. “Why are you getting up?”
Nan Zhiyi shook her head uncomfortably, then spoke in a daze, sounding as if she were talking to herself. “It’s hot. I want to take a bath.”
As she spoke, she began fumbling with her clothes, looking completely like someone who hadn’t sobered up yet.
Aunt Zhang stopped her movements and quickly agreed. “Alright, alright, I’ll take you. We’ll go take a bath right now.”
Then, she hurriedly turned to Di Shijing with an apologetic look. “I’m sorry, Mr. Di, I won’t be able to see you out.”
Glancing at the woman who was still tugging at her clothes, Di Shijing had no choice but to suppress his suspicion for the moment. He said calmly, “It’s fine. Go ahead.”
With that, he turned and left.
The moment she heard the door close, the Nan Zhiyi who had been making a scene immediately regained clarity in her eyes. Her expression turned serious as she asked, “Just now… he didn’t notice anything, did he?”
“Miss Zhiyi?”
Aunt Zhang looked at her in surprise. “You’re awake?”
Nan Zhiyi nodded.
She had napped for a while on the way back and was already feeling much better, though her head was still a bit dizzy. Furthermore, because Di Shijing had been carrying her, she had continued to pretend to be asleep to avoid the awkwardness.
Earlier, when she suddenly heard Di Shijing’s question, she had been startled sober. Worried that Aunt Zhang would let something slip, she decided to play the ‘drunken fool’ to brush it off.
She just didn’t know if the man had bought it…
Nan Zhiyi couldn’t help but feel a bit frustrated, tapping her forehead.
She had been too careless. It was her own fault for drinking for no reason; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been caught in this situation by Di Shijing.
Wanwan’s calligraphy had its own distinct style. Now that he had seen something so similar, Di Shijing would definitely be suspicious unless he was a fool.
Nan Zhiyi was filled with trepidation, worrying that her secret had been discovered. She didn’t sleep well all night.
Meanwhile, after Di Shijing returned home, his mind kept replaying various clues from the past.
For instance, every time he visited, Nan Zhiyi was very tense and seemed to intentionally prevent him from seeing the children.
However, he couldn’t understand her motive for doing so.
Even if she really had children with someone else, he already knew about it. Why would she go to such lengths to hide them from his sight?
The more he thought about it, the tighter Di Shijing’s brow furrowed.
He felt as though he might be overlooking a very important detail.
But he couldn’t figure it out for the moment…
Upon returning to Dijinglan Mansion, Di Shijing didn’t go to his room. Instead, he went straight to the study and pulled out the calligraphy Wanwan had written recently.
Her previously crooked handwriting was gone.
However, the style of the characters had undergone a massive change, looking nothing like before.
Di Shijing stared at the paper in his hand, his brow furrowing deeper and deeper.
That night, he suffered a rare bout of insomnia and didn’t sleep well.
The next morning, Di Shijing didn’t rush out after getting up. Instead, he sat on the sofa reading a financial newspaper.
When Xianxian came downstairs and saw that his daddy hadn’t left for the company yet, he asked curiously, “Daddy, aren’t you going to work today?”
Di Shijing glanced at the little guy and replied, “It’s Saturday. There’s no rush to head out.”
Xianxian nodded and didn’t ask further, dutifully taking his sister to eat breakfast.
Later that morning, Elder Qin arrived.
Since the two little ones had school during the week, these lessons were naturally moved to the weekend.
While they were practicing their calligraphy, Di Shijing deliberately walked over to take a look, focusing his gaze on his daughter’s writing.
The two little ones knew their daddy was watching them and felt a bit nervous.
Their mommy had called this morning to tip them off, saying that Daddy might be suspicious and telling them to be careful.
To their surprise, she was right.
Mumu was feeling tense when she suddenly heard her daddy speak. “Wanwan, I remember your handwriting didn’t look like this before…”
Di Shijing picked up a sheet of calligraphy she had just finished and examined it closely.
Hearing this, Mumu’s little heart began to thud rapidly.
However, she kept her expression calm and quickly wrote on the paper: “Because I wanted to try a different style.”
Her response only fueled Di Shijing’s suspicion.
He stared intently at the little girl and asked, “Your previous style was quite good, why change it? Do you still know how to write the old way?”
Standing nearby, Xianxian broke into a cold sweat for his sister.
Mumu nodded, forcing herself to remain composed.
Di Shijing laid out a fresh sheet of Xuan paper for her and said, “Write some for Daddy to see.”
Mumu didn’t refuse. She immediately picked up the brush and buried her head in her work, writing a few characters in the original style.
She wrote very slowly, but following Di Shijing’s request, the familiar handwriting soon appeared on the paper.
After Di Shijing took a look, he fell silent.
It was indeed Wanwan’s original handwriting…
It was seventy to eighty percent similar to what he had seen at Nan Zhiyi’s house.
Xianxian looked at his daddy and pretended to know nothing, asking, “Daddy, is something wrong? Is my sister’s writing not good?”
As he spoke, he pointedly peered over at the paper his sister had written on.
Di Shijing snapped out of it, put down the paper his daughter had written, and replied indifferently, “It’s nothing. Keep practicing.”
With that, he turned and left the study.
Seeing their daddy leave, the two little ones looked at each other and breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Mumu felt especially lucky.
That was close!
She had spent this recent period specifically mimicking Sister Wanwan’s handwriting; otherwise, she definitely would have been exposed today.
Xianxian nodded in agreement.
The idea of mimicking the handwriting had been their mommy’s requirement, just to be safe.
Who would have thought it would actually come in handy!
Mommy really did have foresight…
“Luckily, Daddy didn’t do a thorough check,” Xianxian whispered with a sigh.
Because Mumu had only practiced mimicking those few specific characters.
If Daddy had asked Mumu to write something else, she would have definitely been found out.
