Six Years Later: Wrecking His World with Quadruplets - Chapter 173
Chapter 173
Old Master Nan shook his head and said, “That… I don’t know either. I asked Grandpa Di before, but he couldn’t give me a clear answer.”
Nan Zhiyi couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed upon hearing this.
However, she quickly regained her composure.
Regardless of who it was, they were definitely a member of the Di Family!
And as far as she was concerned, what had happened was unforgivable!
The Old Master looked at his granddaughter’s darkening expression, hesitated for a moment, and asked, “Girl, what is the relationship between you and Di Shijing… right now?”
Over the past few days, they had seen all of Di Shijing’s actions toward her. They almost thought the two were about to get back together.
Especially today, when that boy Di Shijing had stepped up to protect their granddaughter.
When asked this, Nan Zhiyi followed her original plan and spoke truthfully. “I want to stay on good terms with him so it will be easier to discuss the children’s matters later. As for getting back together… I have no such plans for the time being.”
The biggest issue between her and Di Shijing was that he didn’t love her; he had no feelings for her.
Even if he did now, she wasn’t the same Nan Zhiyi she used to be…
After so many years, everything had changed.
The two elders could more or less understand their granddaughter’s thoughts. They didn’t know what to say at that moment, so they simply took Nan Zhiyi’s hand. “No matter what you do, your grandfather and grandmother will support you. We will also keep the children’s existence a secret! You suffered so much in the Di Family back then; from now on, don’t let yourself be mistreated again!”
“Mhm…”
Nan Zhiyi nodded heavily, her heart filled with warmth.
Then, as if remembering something, she instructed, “By the way, Grandpa and Grandma, I don’t want Grandpa Di to know about the other two children for now. Please make sure not to let it slip.”
“Alright, we won’t say a word.”
The two elders readily agreed.
With that settled, the two elders finally had the chance to speak to the children.
Hengheng called out obediently, “Great-grandpa, Great-grandma.”
That soft, sweet voice made the elders’ hearts melt.
Beside him, although Wanwan couldn’t speak, she acted very affectionately, giving them a sweet smile that was incredibly adorable.
Seeing that they weren’t strangers to each other at all, Nan Zhiyi was a bit surprised. “Grandpa, Grandma, have you met the children before?”
Hengheng immediately replied, “We have! Great-grandpa from the Di Family took us to see them several times before!”
Old Master Nan added, “Your Grandpa Di knew we were worried about the children, so he specifically brought them over.”
Upon hearing this, Nan Zhiyi felt a sudden pang of guilt.
Grandpa Di had always been wonderful to her and the children.
Yet, she was choosing to keep him in the dark…
Old Madam saw what she was thinking and comforted her. “Don’t overthink it. Your Grandpa Di definitely won’t blame you for this.”
As she spoke, she intentionally changed the subject. “Speaking of which, I wonder if the other two little ones are shy around strangers.”
At the thought of Xianxian and Mumu, the corners of Nan Zhiyi’s lips curled up, and her mood improved significantly. She smiled and said, “Don’t worry, they definitely aren’t!”
“Oh? Is that so?”
The two elders became interested and looked at her curiously. “Tell us about them. What are those two little ones like? Their personalities, hobbies-anything.”
“Those two are little rascals, very smart. Sometimes even I feel like they’re looking down on me…”
Once Nan Zhiyi started talking, she couldn’t stop.
The Nan Family elders listened with beaming smiles, their hearts filled with anticipation. “I can’t wait to meet them…”
The family chatted happily for a long time.
As noon approached, Nan Zhiyi went into the kitchen herself to prepare a sumptuous lunch to welcome the two elders.
Just as they were about to eat, the doorbell rang abruptly.
Nan Zhiyi was closest to the door. She felt puzzled-who would be coming over at this hour?
Lost in thought, Nan Zhiyi headed toward the door.
Just as she reached the foyer, she saw the faces of Old Master Di and Di Shijing on the video intercom.
Nan Zhiyi’s heart nearly stopped. She rushed back into the living room, her voice urgent. “It’s Di Shijing and Grandpa Di! They’re here!”
“What?”
Everyone in the house was startled.
Nan Zhiyi forced herself to stay calm and began barking orders. “Hengheng, Wanwan, go upstairs and hide, now!”
Upon hearing this, the two little ones nodded, grabbed each other’s hands, and bolted upstairs.
Nan Zhiyi then turned to Aunt Zhang. “Clean up the living room. Especially the children’s photos-don’t miss a single one!”
“Understood.”
Aunt Zhang nodded and immediately got to work.
Seeing the rush, Old Master Nan and the Old Madam also jumped in to help tidy up.
After a frantic scramble, they confirmed everything looked normal. Only then did Nan Zhiyi go to open the door.
Facing the two men outside, she couldn’t help but feel a bit awkward. There was a faint, almost imperceptible tension in her voice as she spoke. “Grandpa Di, why the sudden visit? You didn’t mention you were coming.”
Old Master Di smiled. “I wanted to give you a surprise and celebrate your grandmother’s discharge from the hospital.”
Nan Zhiyi forced a strained smile, thinking to herself: This isn’t a surprise; it’s a heart attack!
“Why did it take so long to open the door?”
Di Shijing noticed something was off about her expression and spoke up.
Nan Zhiyi forced herself to remain composed. “I was busy in the kitchen and couldn’t step away. Since you’re here, why don’t you join us for dinner? I’ll go whip up a few more dishes.”
Old Master Di readily agreed, his smile deepening. “That sounds wonderful! I’ve actually been craving your cooking!”
After inviting them inside, Nan Zhiyi headed to the kitchen to get busy, with Aunt Zhang following to help.
Old Master Nan and the Old Madam took charge of entertaining the guests.
Since it was Old Master Di’s first time at Nan Zhiyi’s place, he naturally looked around with curiosity, wanting to see how the girl was living.
However, as he looked, he spotted a few things that shouldn’t have been there.
“Wait… why are there children’s puzzles and Legos here?”
Old Master Di was quite surprised and asked the question instinctively.
The two elders of the Nan Family were caught completely off guard.
They had seen the toys while tidying up, but the puzzle was too large and the Lego set was half-finished; there had been no way to hide them quickly.
Just as they were struggling to find an answer, Di Shijing suddenly spoke up. “They probably belong to Nan Zhiyi’s two children.”
This statement left the three elders stunned.
Old Master Nan and the Old Madam were shocked that Di Shijing actually knew their granddaughter had two children! How did that happen?
Old Master Di, on the other hand, was utterly flabbergasted.
He looked at his grandson in disbelief. “What do you mean? The girl’s two children… what’s going on? She already has children??”
Nan Zhiyi happened to walk out with a dish just in time to hear this. She took the opportunity to answer, “It’s true. I do have two children.”
Old Master Di was a man who had weathered many storms, but at this moment, he couldn’t control his expression at all.
He asked agitatedly, “You… you’re married?”
“No.”
“Then what’s the situation with the children?”
Old Master Di frowned. “Are they adopted?”
Nan Zhiyi’s eyes flickered slightly as she chose a safe explanation. “No, I gave birth to them myself while I was abroad.”
Old Master Di suddenly went silent. He needed a moment to process this information.
He didn’t say another word for a long time.
Nan Zhiyi didn’t mind. She placed the dish on the dining table and continued, “Dinner is ready. Please, come and eat.”
Once everyone was seated, Di Shijing glanced at Nan Zhiyi and asked, “Aren’t you going to call the two children down to eat?”
