Seven Years of Lies, I Ruined His Life - Chapter 10
When I arrived home, there were two pairs of old, worn cloth shoes on the shoe rack by the door.
Before I even pushed the door open, I could hear Guan Qin’s parents loudly berating her.
I frowned.
I went to the nearby stairwell and smoked a cigarette.
In the decade-plus that Guan Qin and I had been married, her parents had rarely visited.
Every time they did, it ended in non-stop arguments.
Guan Qin was the middle child, with an older sister and a younger brother.
She had been eating the “half-cooked rice” of family neglect right up until the year we married.
Her parents never really thought much of me either.
It was only because Guan Qin was the unfavored child, and my parents appreciated her hardworking nature.
Later, Guan Qin helped me start my business. As it grew, her parents finally started to look at me with some respect.
After our son was born, Guan Qin’s parents visited a bit more frequently.
But every time they came, it was either to ask for money or to complain and then ask for more money.
This time, with Guan Qin and me getting a divorce, I had no idea what kind of scene they would make.
I dropped the cigarette butt on the ground, crushed it with my foot, took a deep breath, and entered the code to open the door.
When I walked in, Guan Qin was in the kitchen washing fruit.
Her parents were sitting on the sofa.
Seeing me, her mother shot up. “Good son-in-law, you’re home from work so early?”
The words “good son-in-law” instantly reminded me of the calls Guan Qin had made to me at noon.
Guan Qin stood in the kitchen with her back to me, her body visibly tense.
Guessing that she probably hadn’t told them about the divorce, I played along. “Mom, Dad, what brings you here?”
