seven-year itch - Chapter 22
The next day, I hadn’t planned on going to the Civil Affairs Bureau.
But my parents came again.
They forced me to go through with the paperwork.
Jiang Wan was still dropped off by that man.
Even Huanhuan wouldn’t let go of his hand, laughing and chatting with him.
She seemed closer to him than to me, her biological father.
In the car, I asked my dad why.
Wasn’t I his biological son?
My dad sneered coldly.
“Yes, my biological son. But where were you all these years when your mom and I were sick and hospitalized? It was Jiang Wan who took care of everything for us.”
“And where were you when your daughter was sick? You’ve done less than a stranger would!”
“I deeply regret introducing Jiang Wan to you back then! She deserved a better life. It’s my fault she ended up with you!”
My dad’s eyes turned red.
He truly regretted introducing Jiang Wan to me.
My mom sighed beside him.
“I wonder if Huanhuan will even remember me as her grandmother in the future.”
Just then, there was a knock on the car window.
Jiang Wan stood outside holding Huanhuan.
“Huanhuan, say goodbye to Grandpa and Grandma.”
Huanhuan smiled sweetly. “Goodbye, Grandpa and Grandma!”
I looked at Huanhuan, forcing a smile. Just as I was about to say something, Jiang Wan set Huanhuan down, and she turned and ran toward that man.
The words caught in my throat.
Jiang Wan didn’t look at me. She smiled at my parents and said, “Teachers, if you ever miss Huanhuan, just call me, and I’ll bring her to see you.”
With that, she turned and walked away without looking back.
I stared at the three of them for a long time.
Jiang Wan holding Huanhuan’s hand, and Huanhuan holding that man’s hand.
The three of them were laughing and chatting about going to the amusement park.
I turned back to the car, where Zhou Qing was sitting in the passenger seat.
She glared at me.
Her eyes looked like they were about to pop out of their sockets.
It was unsettling.
Oh, right.
Zhou Qing’s parents had come to my house and caused a huge scene.
They said their daughter was young and beautiful and had sacrificed herself to be my mistress. Now that Zhou Qing was pregnant, they demanded I give them an explanation.
Either marry Zhou Qing or pay ten million yuan as a breakup fee.
I chose the former.
But I kept it from Zhou Qing and altered the Divorce Agreement.
I left all my assets to Huanhuan.
I now had nothing to my name.
During this time, I had come to terms with everything.
There was never any love between Zhou Qing and me.
It was nothing more than an exchange of money and desire.
She slept with me, and I gave her money.
What she loved all along was the wealthy and powerful Gu Ming.
But I refused to let her get her way.
She’s the one who ruined me.
A month later, Jiang Wan and I finalized our divorce.
That same day, Zhou Qing and I registered our marriage.
My parents were so furious they cut ties with me.
I was unfazed and insisted on being with Zhou Qing.
The moment we got our marriage certificate, Zhou Qing kissed me passionately.
She said, “Hubby, I saw a handbag I really like! Can you buy it for me as a wedding gift?”
I smiled faintly and told her I had given up all my assets and left with nothing.
Zhou Qing broke down on the spot.
I looked down at the woman who was frantically punching me and grabbed her wrists tightly.
“What’s wrong? Didn’t you say you only wanted me?”
“We’re married now. Shouldn’t you be happy?”
