seven-year itch - Chapter 21
In the hotel lobby, I was checking in.
Suddenly, a familiar voice sounded beside me.
“Checking out.”
My body stiffened, and I turned around abruptly.
I saw the woman I had been longing for day and night.
Jiang Wan had put on exquisite makeup.
She was wearing a fitted burgundy dress.
With black stilettos and chestnut-colored wavy hair, her entire aura was commanding.
Just like back in the days of the debate competition, she was impossible to look away from.
When she saw me, there wasn’t the slightest ripple of emotion in her eyes.
She even gave me a faint smile.
But that smile felt piercingly cold.
I was just about to ask her why she was at the hotel.
Then I saw a young man dragging a suitcase walk up from behind and stand next to Jiang Wan.
In a clear and youthful voice, he called out to her, “Jiang Wan.”
The man looked about twenty-five or twenty-six.
He was brimming with youthful energy.
In contrast, I had been sleepless and haggard these past few days.
I wanted to ask Jiang Wan who this man was.
Just as I was about to speak, her words from not long ago echoed in my mind.
“If you think it’s unfair, you can find someone too.”
So this man…
I stared at Jiang Wan with wide eyes.
She saw through my thoughts and sneered disdainfully.
“Gu Ming, don’t assume I’m as filthy as you.”
“Then tell me, who is he?!”
My voice rose, echoing through the hotel lobby.
In comparison, Jiang Wan remained much calmer.
She looked at me with a condescending glance.
“Do you remember that night six months ago?”
“I sent you a message saying Huanhuan had a fever and asked you to come back to take us to the hospital.”
“You didn’t answer the phone. You blocked me. You didn’t reply to the message either.”
“Later, I drove to the hospital myself. On the way, I scraped someone else’s car. He’s the owner of that car. Afterward, he was the one who took us to the hospital.”
Jiang Wan’s tone was so indifferent, as if she were recounting someone else’s story.
Her attitude cut me deeply.
I looked into her eyes, my voice low and hoarse.
“So you slept with him?”
“Slap!”
A loud slap landed on my face.
Jiang Wan sneered coldly.
“Only a filthy heart sees filth in everything.”
“Your father called me and said you’ve signed the papers. Tomorrow, find some time to go to the civil affairs bureau to finalize the divorce.”
“Gu Ming, while I still have the patience to talk to you civilly, let’s part on good terms.”
