Chapter 9

The following days were somewhat dull.

Since Yuan Chen was on a business trip, I was left alone at home.

He might return in a week if early, or it could take up to half a month.

I arranged to meet my best friend for afternoon tea and took the opportunity to ask her about preparations needed for pregnancy.

My friend teased with a laugh, “I told you, how could your husband, with all those assets, really agree to be child-free with you? I initially thought he might not be capable, but it turns out he’s just indulging you. You’re so lucky.”

My face flushed slightly, “Let’s be serious.”

“Alright, the esteemed Mrs. Yuan needs my help, so of course, I’ll be at your service!” she said, starting to count on her fingers as she explained.

“During the preparation period for pregnancy, you don’t actually need much.

“Start taking folic acid, the XX brand is better, though it’s a bit pricey, but it’s nothing for you.

“Once you’re pregnant, there are more things to prepare. Someone will handle the nutrition part for you, remember to switch to simpler skincare products, and get a maternity pillow…”

“Maternity pillow?” I asked, puzzled, “Is there a pillow specifically for pregnant women?”

“Of course, it’s inconvenient with a big belly.” She took out her phone and searched for a picture to show me, “Look, like this.”

A chill ran through my heart.

Half a year ago, I had seen a similar pillow on the sofa in Yuan Chen’s office.

He told me at the time that he was busy with work and had some back pain, so he bought it casually.

Seeing my sudden silence, my friend was somewhat baffled, “What’s wrong?”

I shook my head with a smile and changed the subject.

After returning home, I received a call from a private detective and an email notification.

Upon opening it, there was a phone recording, apparently captured by a bug, and it was quite clear.

However, Chen Yinan’s voice sounded somewhat anxious.

“She seems to have already noticed something’s wrong, and now I can’t get close to her. She gives me a nasty look whenever she sees me and even threatens to call the police.

“I might need you to create some more opportunities for me.

“This task is really challenging! You should understand best, right? No woman would easily fall for an outside man when she’s facing you every day.”

On the other end, a particularly familiar and calm voice pierced my ears, making me feel an unprecedented chill.

“I’ve already given you a chance.

“If you can’t accomplish it within the last half month…

“There are plenty of people eager to earn this twenty million if you don’t.”
