Chapter 8
“Yanyan…
“I’m not trying to disturb you on purpose, just wanted to return these to you.”
He was dressed in cheap casual wear, looking somewhat like he did back in high school, but with less of the carefree air and more traces of weariness between his brows.
In his hands, he held a large box filled with various gifts I had given him during our high school days. Speakers, headphones, watches… all brand names, purchased with the New Year money I had saved up for years.
To Chen Yinan, these items were of considerable value, but to me, they were nothing more than a pile of junk.
And a pile of outdated, decaying junk at that, long since gathering dust.
I glanced at it indifferently, “Throw it away.”
“And don’t come looking for me again, or I’ll call the police.”
“You know, I let you off the hook yesterday.”
Recalling that incense, Chen Yinan’s face flushed slightly, and he lowered his head, not daring to speak further. After setting down the box, he turned and left.
The security guard in the booth had been watching us for a while and only approached quickly after seeing him walk away.
“Teacher Xu, is everything alright?”
“Who was that guy? I’ve seen him a few times before, sneaking around the entrance of our school. I thought he was a thief, but it turns out he’s a friend of yours.”
“Do you need these things? I can help you move them inside.”
I shook my head, “No need, just throw them away for me, thanks.”
“Oh, Teacher Xu, no need to be so polite. President Yuan takes such good care of our school.”
I watched as the security guard carried the box away, then turned to look once more at his retreating figure.
He walked slowly, occasionally getting his pants splashed by dirty water from passing students’ bicycles, but he merely glanced at them, not daring to stop anyone to question them.
Lingering around multiple times?
Ha, of course, it was intentional. From the very beginning of our reunion, it was all a scheme.
But his appearance today proved he still hadn’t given up on this scheme.
I made a call to a private investigator.
“Hello, I need you to keep an eye on someone.”
