Chapter 10
It was Yuan Chen.
His voice, the one I knew best.
The difference was, when he spoke to me, he always used a gentle, soft tone, every word and sentence filled with concern and care for me.
But at work, his tone would be like it was just now–calm, efficient, and indisputable.
He was in contact with Chen Yinan.
He had Chen Yinan lure me, step by step, into the abyss.
But why would he do such a thing?
Did he know about Chen Yinan’s subsequent plans?
Or was it all part of his plan?
In my mind, that strangely suggestive maternity pillow appeared again.
Yet the image of him crying helplessly like a child in front of my tombstone on the seventh day, and the stark contrast of the white roses against the yellow mud, flashed before my eyes once more.
Which one was the real him?
I spent the whole night in a daze, sometimes confused, my mind aching with pain, sometimes unknowingly exhausted, only to be awakened by nightmares.
The next morning, I showed up at school with dark circles under my eyes.
But I didn’t go inside; instead, I searched for that figure at the school gate. Sure enough, Chen Yinan appeared again, furtively, freezing on the spot the moment he saw me, seemingly unsure of how to react.
“Yanyan, I… I just wanted to watch you from afar.”
I walked up to him expressionlessly, staring at him.
This man was indeed different from ten years ago. Although his appearance hadn’t changed much, he seemed to have been ravaged by reality, leaving him with little strength. Yet there was still a glimmer in his eyes, perhaps the only lifeline and hope he could cling to now.
That was me.
“Chen Yinan, let’s talk.”
