Chapter 6
At the party, Yuan Chen and I remained the center of attention.
His tech company, boasting one of the top domestic chip technologies, had captured half of the market, with a queue of people eager to collaborate stretching endlessly.
As for me, with my attractive appearance, superior demeanor, and respectable position as an associate professor at a prestigious university, coupled with Yuan Chen’s exclusive affection, I was the envy of all the women present.
After returning home, I climbed onto Yuan Chen’s shoulder, helping him remove his suit.
As expected, his gaze darkened, and he carried me horizontally to the bed.
After the passion subsided, I lay in his solid embrace, watching a melodramatic Thai drama.
He held me with one arm, while the other hand replied to work messages.
I glanced over; it was Jian Yi, the group’s vice president.
She was Yuan Chen’s junior from the same school, a high-achieving graduate from a prestigious institution, known as a formidable woman since her student days, wholly dedicated to her career, claiming that men would only slow her down.
She didn’t want to marry, so she went abroad for IVF, and even before giving birth, she was hosting meetings in the company wearing a hospital gown.
Now, she was in charge of the group’s overseas business, which involved time differences, often requiring midnight exchanges with Yuan Chen.
Yuan Chen didn’t guard against me, allowing me to look for quite a while before he smiled and stroked my long hair, “What’s up? Thinking of joining the company too?”
It was just a joke, but I looked up at him, “Can I?”
Yuan Chen clearly hadn’t expected me to actually have this thought, raising an eyebrow, “Is someone at work giving you a hard time again?”
He knew how to stand up for his wife. When I first joined, someone had spread sour rumors about me at the school, and Yuan Chen directly donated two buildings to the school.
I nestled in his arms, recalling Chen Yinan’s repulsive face, and whispered guiltily, “I just feel like my companionship and love for you seem too little.”
He put down his phone, cupped my face, and planted a gentle kiss.
“I don’t care about those things.
“As long as you’re by my side.”
My nose tingled with emotion, and I murmured, “Yuan Chen…
“Let’s have a child.”
Yuan Chen looked worried, “But your health…”
I shook my head resolutely.
“It’s okay, for you, I’m willing to try, even if it means walking through the gates of hell, I’m not afraid.”
After all, I’ve already walked through those gates once.
But last time, I trusted the wrong person.
This time, I won’t make the same mistake, nor leave any regrets.
