Chapter 4
But this sourness, it’s not for him, nor is it for myself.
In my past life, the half of the assets that Yuan Chen had painstakingly built up with so much effort was handed over by me to this man, just like that.
I fulfilled his greed and my own selfishness, yet trampled on the sincerity that Yuan Chen had given me.
The butler’s voice pulled me back to reality: “Madam, the chauffeur has canceled the order. What do you think…”
The villa area is too remote, and it’s already hard enough to get a taxi. These days, it’s not easy for ordinary people to make some money–naturally, they want to hurry and catch the next ride.
The maids can’t drive the luxury cars; they’re afraid something might go wrong.
The butler can drive, but just a few days ago he slipped on the stairs, and his right foot is still a bit lame. He can walk, but driving is difficult.
It takes forty minutes to drive from here to the venue, but there’s only a little more than an hour before the event starts. I still need to check in ahead of time and then meet up with Yuan Chen.
Gritting my teeth, I pushed that man aside, intending to take the driver’s seat myself.
But he grabbed my arm at once. “Yan… Madam, let me do it.”
“Chen Yinan, let go.”
The butler and he both looked at me, caught in a dilemma. After a moment, he finally let go, slowly.
The butler said, worried, “Madam, please be careful.”
Chen Yinan clenched his hands tightly, his voice tinged with a trace of pleading: “It’s just a few dozen minutes. I’ll try to drive as fast as I can.”
Yes, just forty minutes. What am I afraid of?
On the way back, I can ride with Yuan Chen.
Taking a deep breath, I turned and got into the back seat.
Only then did the two of them breathe a sigh of relief. Chen Yinan immediately got in, started the car, and drove me to the venue.
All the way there, I gazed quietly out the window, saying nothing.
A faint rose incense wafted to my nose, bringing with it a trace of romance.
Soothing light music softened some of the awkward atmosphere. Halfway there, Chen Yinan tried tentatively, “You… have you been well all these years?”
I snorted coldly. “Can’t you see for yourself?”
He fell silent for a while before speaking softly, “Actually, back then, I tried to find you…”
“That’s enough.”
I didn’t want to hear any more.
But my breathing couldn’t help but grow a little rapid, and my body began to feel hot.
No, something’s not right.
My gaze instantly fell on the incense inside the car.
