Chapter 6
I instinctively struggled, but he only held me tighter.
Jin Beiyan seemed almost amused with anger, his gaze icy cold.
“What, are you saving yourself for him?”
“Does your little boyfriend know you were still lying on top of me last night?”
I glared at him resentfully, my frustration rising.
Deliberately, I said what he wouldn’t want to hear, just to get under his skin.
“Yes, I am saving myself for him. So what? What does it have to do with you?”
“Let go! What right do you have to treat me like this?”
“You’re just an old man. What makes you think you can compare to him?”
Pei Chenghuan’s footsteps grew closer, and my nerves got the best of me-I forgot to breathe.
If anyone saw us like this, how embarrassing would it be?
But Jin Beiyan mistook my fear for concern about Pei Chenghuan.
His eyes darkened, and with a cold laugh, Jin Beiyan grabbed the back of my head.
His long fingers pinched the soft flesh on both sides of my cheeks, forcing me to part my lips slightly.
He bit my tongue as punishment, his tone almost coaxing.
“Be good, you won’t know until you experience it yourself.”
“See how good it really is.”
“Be obedient. Little Uncle will teach you personally.”
In the end, Jin Beiyan carried me back to the living room.
I tried to break free, but barely made it a few steps before my legs gave out-I nearly collapsed onto the floor.
Fortunately, Pei Chenghuan had been led to the lounge by the housekeeper and didn’t witness my humiliation.
Jin Beiyan pulled out two wet wipes, carefully cleaning my hands.
Seeing my eyes still slightly red, his gaze dimmed and his voice softened.
“Be good, I was wrong. I was too impulsive…”
“Nan Yu, where were you just now? You’ve been gone so long.”
Before he could finish, he was interrupted.
Pei Chenghuan’s voice was tinged with anxiety, but he relaxed as soon as he saw me.
I reflexively withdrew my hand and pushed myself up from the sofa.
“I think I ate too fast and felt a bit nauseous just now.”
“I’m fine now, let me walk you home.”
His sudden closeness sent my heart into turmoil.
I didn’t know how to face Jin Beiyan anymore.
My mind was a tangled mess, like a knotted ball of yarn that couldn’t be unraveled.
Jin Beiyan had clearly rejected me first, so why did he lose control like that when he saw Pei Chenghuan being nice to me?
What kind of feelings does he really have for me?
I was absent-minded all the way, until the car stopped downstairs at Pei Chenghuan’s apartment.
He saw me lost in thought and gave me a bittersweet smile.
“Nan Yu, are you thinking about your Little Uncle?”
He saw right through me, and I felt at a loss.
“Mm… He watches over me pretty strictly. I’m worried he’ll be mad if he finds out I went to a bar in the middle of the night.”
“Is that really all?”
Seeing my silence, a flash of understanding crossed Pei Chenghuan’s eyes.
“Nan Yu, I can see you care about him and rely on him a lot.”
“But have you ever thought, maybe it’s not love-maybe you’re just used to having him around.”
“Why not try leaving him for a while?”
My heart skipped a beat, a sour ache swelling inside.
Why does everyone think my feelings for Jin Beiyan aren’t real love?
Is it really a case of not seeing the forest for the trees-am I the only one who can’t see clearly?
Looking into Pei Chenghuan’s sincere eyes, I hesitated before agreeing.
Jin Beiyan’s attitude is impossible to read. I didn’t want to keep sinking in this emotional quagmire.
At the same time, I wanted to use this chance to reassess my own feelings.
Pei Chenghuan was clearly delighted, thoughtfully adding,
“There are still some single dorm rooms left at school. I can help you apply.”
“And I’m looking for internships lately. Z Group has some great sales positions. If we get the chance, we can apply together. Keeping busy will help take your mind off these unpleasant things.”
“Alright, thank you.”
On the day I moved into the dorm, Jin Beiyan stood at my bedroom door for a long time.
It wasn’t until I’d packed my last suitcase that he spoke.
“Avoiding me?”
“No, I just found an internship recently. It’s more convenient to live on campus.”
He snorted coldly, his tone unfriendly.
“Did your little boyfriend put you up to this again?”
I froze for a second before realizing he meant Pei Chenghuan.
“He’s not my boyfriend. We’re just friends.”
I’ve already made things clear to Pei Chenghuan-I don’t intend to start a new relationship right now.
He seemed a bit upset but acted gentlemanly, saying he’d respect my wishes and not overstep.
Since then, I’ve also kept my distance from Pei Chenghuan on purpose.
Jin Beiyan seemed about to say more when I got a call from my supervisor.
“Xiao Shen, I have a big client to meet over at Jingxiu Mansion. You and Xiao Pei come over quickly, get some experience.”
“Okay, Manager Wang, I’ll be there soon.”
I briefly explained to Jin Beiyan, grabbed my bag, and hurried out.
I didn’t notice the deep chill in the man’s eyes behind me, the coldness impossible to suppress.
“Shen Nanyu, if you dare take one step out today, I’ll break your legs.”
“That Pei Chenghuan is no good. Stay away from him.”
His tone was menacing as Jin Beiyan grabbed my waist.
Looking at his gloomy face, all my pent-up frustration burst out at once.
“What’s your problem!”
“I’m just going to work-do you have to control that too?”
“You say Pei Chenghuan’s no good, but are you any better yourself?”
I stomped hard on his foot, and as he winced in pain, I bolted.
