Chapter 4
The next day, I woke up groggy and was completely stunned when I saw the messages on my phone.
Pei Chenghuan: “You left in a hurry last night, and your coat was left at the bar. I’ll bring it over to you.”
Shameful memories flooded my mind.
Whenever I closed my eyes, Pei Chenghuan’s gentle gaze appeared before me.
Help, what on earth did I do yesterday?
My hand holding the phone was trembling, so I could only pretend I’d blacked out.
“Haha, I drank too much, I don’t remember anything.”
“It’s okay, you were adorable when you were drunk.”
I was stunned for two seconds, my cheeks faintly burning.
While I was spacing out, my phone screen lit up again.
“I’m at the entrance of your neighborhood, but the security guard stopped me. I think you’ll need to come get me.”
I hurriedly changed clothes and rushed out the door.
On the way, Lin Shuang kept calling me, her enthusiasm for gossip completely unstoppable.
“Yuyu! You’re finally awake! How far did you two get?”
“I was the one who asked Pei Chenghuan to bring you your coat. Aren’t I super smart! I’m the ultimate wingman!”
“He was really bold yesterday, confessing to you in front of so many people. Take my advice: since your Little Uncle has already rejected you, you should try accepting someone else. Besides, Pei Chenghuan has the looks and the body-you’re not losing out.”
“What time did he come?”
“Eight o’clock, I sent him your address first thing this morning.”
I glanced at the time-it was already noon.
He’d actually waited for me this long.
From a distance, I spotted Pei Chenghuan’s tall figure. I hung up and walked over to him.
“Sorry for the trouble, and for making you wait so long.”
Thinking of my recklessness last night, my smile was a bit awkward.
“It’s no trouble, I was on my way anyway. Besides, I came too early myself.”
Pei Chenghuan was as considerate as ever, easily shifting the blame for my problem onto himself with just a few words.
I couldn’t help but think that Pei Chenghuan was a completely different type from Jin Beiyan.
Maybe I should try accepting a new beginning.
“Well, I’ll head back then? I’ll treat you to a meal another day.”
Pei Chenghuan kept his gentle gaze fixed on me, his eyes soft as water.
My face grew warm, and I felt a bit awkward.
He handed me the neatly folded coat and tentatively spoke.
“How about today? I came in a hurry and forgot to eat breakfast, so my stomach hurts a bit. There aren’t any restaurants around this villa area, and if I go back now I probably won’t get lunch either, so…”
My guilt deepened, and I couldn’t bring myself to refuse.
“Alright, I’ll ask Auntie to make a few more dishes.”
A smile spread across Pei Chenghuan’s face, a flash of triumph in his eyes.
