Chapter 2
The first time I heard the name Zhou Xuan was a month ago.
That day, Jiang Ling accompanied me to watch a movie. Halfway through, I noticed he seemed a bit distracted.
When I turned to look at him again, I found him staring down at his phone, a faint smile playing on his lips, his expression completely relaxed.
I watched him, hesitating for quite a while before asking, “What are you looking at?”
Jiang Ling kept his head down, his voice tinged with amusement, “Zhou Xuan.”
The atmosphere froze for a moment.
That was the first time I heard the name “Zhou Xuan” spoken from Jiang Ling’s mouth.
His speech was slow and gentle, wrapping her name around his tongue, sounding exceptionally pleasant.
It was as if he realized something, and he suddenly lifted his head to look at me.
After locking eyes with me for two seconds, he handed me his phone, explaining earnestly,
“Zhou Xuan is a new colleague at the company, very diligent in her work. I just see her as a junior I can mentor.”
I stared straight at the phone screen.
The girl in the video seemed to be celebrating her birthday, with someone smearing cake on her face. She didn’t mind at all, instead, she grinned brightly.
It was clear she was a girl with a great personality.
“The video was sent by a colleague in the group chat. I just happened to click on it.”
Jiang Ling pulled my hand into his, holding it tightly. The warmth was palpable, his voice as gentle as ever, “Nannan, trust me.”
I looked at him for a long time. He appeared calm and sincere, not like someone who was lying.
But somehow, the smile he had just shown kept replaying in my mind.
Until the movie ended, we didn’t say another word.
I never expected that everything had already been foreshadowed.
