Chapter 1

Half asleep, I heard someone open the door and slowly walk towards the bed.

The familiar scent wafted over, and I sat up, reaching out to wrap my arms around Jiang Ling’s neck.

Just a few centimeters away from his lips, he suddenly turned his head, avoiding my kiss.

This instinctive action left both of us stunned and completely dispelled my sleepiness.

Perhaps to avoid the awkwardness, Jiang Ling tugged at his tie and went straight into the bathroom.

Soon, the sound of water trickling came from the bathroom.

Jiang Ling had been working overtime a lot recently, often coming home very late.

Thinking that he might be too busy to have eaten, half of the earlier awkwardness and frustration immediately dissipated.

I searched for my phone, thinking I should order him some food first.

Then I remembered my phone was still charging in the living room.

Turning my head, I noticed Jiang Ling’s phone casually tossed beside the pillow.

Without much thought, I picked it up and chose a restaurant he frequented recently, ordering a bowl of bone broth noodles.

After placing the order, just as I was about to turn off the screen, a notification from Meituan¹ popped up, saying that the errand order had been delivered.

The order information showed it was a package of brown sugar and a box of Tianqi menstrual pain relief capsules.

Suddenly, a WeChat message popped up on the screen: “The painkillers were really helpful, thanks.”

I froze, my finger hovering above the screen for a long time before I tapped into it.

The most recent chat was from half an hour ago.

Jiang Ling: “Your face didn’t look too good when you left just now.”

The other party replied with a pitiful emoji.

Jiang Ling: “I’ve finished the proposal.”

The other party quickly responded: “Great, then I can sleep a bit more tomorrow and come to the office later.”

Jiang Ling: “Okay.”

Not long after, Jiang Ling asked again: “Are you feeling better?”

There was no reply from the other side.

After five minutes, Jiang Ling sent another message: “I bought you some things, make sure to keep warm these days.”

Jiang Ling hadn’t set a remark for her, but judging by the profile picture and chat content, it was obvious.

She was Zhou Xuan.
