Chapter 9
I had mentally prepared myself to encounter familiar faces at the dinner party.
However, I didn’t expect the first people I saw to be my parents.
Aurora, who usually went without makeup, was dressed in a gown and high heels this time, looking somewhat timid and out of place among the crowd.
My mother was kindly fixing her bangs.
Upon seeing me, Aurora immediately clung to my mother’s arm.
“Mom, look, my sister is here too.”
I doubted my ears: “What did you just call my mom?”
“Yes, Lilith, you might not know yet, but I’ve accepted your mom as my godmother. We had some misunderstandings and unpleasantness before, but that’s all in the past. We’re family now.”
My father looked pleased, “Aurora is such a forgiving child, recognizing family. Unlike Lilith, who grew up with her grandparents and has always been rebellious, never really warming up to us.”
“Sister, this is my and Flynn’s engagement invitation. After much thought, I decided it’s best to hand it to you personally.”
“Who are you calling sister?” I took the invitation and tossed it into the trash can.
“Lilith Chambers, that was too much,” my father said sternly, “Apologize to Rory.”
“Is that all?” I sneered:
“I remember when Aurora and Flynn got together, my engagement with Flynn hadn’t been called off yet. When you accepted her as your goddaughter, you didn’t even ask for my opinion as your biological daughter. Isn’t that the real overstep?”
Aurora’s eyes filled with tears:
“Lilith, what wrong is there in Flynn and I being in love? You haven’t been home for so long, and Uncle and Auntie were lonely. I was just trying to help you fulfill your filial duties. Why do you have to target me like this?”
I was annoyed by Aurora’s tendency to cry at the drop of a hat, it made my head spin:
“Being in love doesn’t change the fact that you interfered in someone else’s relationship. Also, it’s not that I didn’t come home; they were the ones who drove me out, saying they didn’t have a daughter like me. If you’re so forgiving, why didn’t you stand up and say you forgave me back then?”
With that, I prepared to leave, holding my wine glass.
Aurora seemed to want to follow, but she stepped on my dress and fell flat on the ground.
Luckily, I had years of experience wearing high heels and managed to keep my balance.
I didn’t fall, but the wine in my glass spilled out, mostly landing on Aurora.
The commotion wasn’t too big or too small, just enough to draw the attention of the surrounding people.
Flynn and Damien ended their conversations and came over.
A few whispers arose around us:
“There’s Lilith Chambers again, how many times has she clashed with Aurora now?”
“This woman is terrifying, daring to push someone down and spill wine on them in front of everyone. Isn’t this bullying?”
“With such a nasty personality, no wonder Flynn Shaw would rather marry the plain and poor Aurora than her.”
…
“What happened?”
“Are you okay?”
Flynn and Damien spoke almost simultaneously, but Flynn was helping Aurora.
While Damien was concerned about me.
“Honey, the dress is stained. This is a global limited edition, hard to replace.”
Looking at the wine stain on my dress, I complained to Damien.
“As long as you’re okay. This brand is about to release a new collection, we’ll get another one then.”
Bullet comments:
[It’s getting cold, can I warm my hands in Mr. Sinclair’s wallet?]
[Compared to them, our villain couple seems much more normal than the supposed main couple. The damsel just knows how to cry in a cutesy voice, while the guy acts all macho, facepalm.]
“Mr. Sinclair, are you… are you Lilith Chambers’ husband?”
Aurora staggered to her feet, looking between me and Damien in disbelief.
