Chapter 1
I had been in a nominal, contract marriage with the Incubus CEO for three years.
The day I brought up divorce.
He answered indifferently, but suddenly, a barrage of comments floated above his head:
[That yandere freak, the chains and little toys in the basement are all custom-made for the second female lead’s size. Why pretend to be a gentleman now?]
[Second female lead, the moment you finish signing, the next moment you wake up you’ll be hate-fucking the repulsive second male lead.]
[Oh ho, the captivity play is finally about to begin. That’s what I call a hate-fuck, so satisfying! The Incubus’s true form supposedly has barbs. The second female lead has done so many bad things, losing focus in her eyes is just what she deserves…]
[Hey, second female lead, you’re so muddle-headed. If you’d shown the second male lead even a little kindness these past years, this crazy, love-obsessed lunatic would have immediately gotten on his knees and become your dog. Things wouldn’t have twisted into this mess, into hatred born of love…]
My hand trembled as I signed, and I looked up at the man in front of me, his face expressionless:
“Um, maybe let’s not get divorced just yet.”
“What?” Damien’s thin eyelids lifted slightly, his tone indifferent.
His nonchalant demeanor made me doubt if I had misread the barrage of comments earlier.
I took a deep breath, put down the pen I was using to sign, and racked my brain to explain:
“I suddenly don’t want to get a divorce. After all, a day as a couple is worth a hundred days of grace. We’ve been together for three years, and we’ve gotten used to each other’s presence. Actually, I find it hard to leave you…”
As I spoke, the man’s expression gradually turned puzzled, and I lost my confidence, my voice growing softer.
My marriage to Damien was an accident.
Five years ago, ever since a penniless intern named Aurora Lockewood joined the company, my smooth-sailing life turned into a mess.
The childhood sweetheart who once promised to take care of me for a lifetime fell in love with someone else and publicly broke off our engagement, leaving me humiliated.
Even my usually indulgent parents unprecedentedly sided with Aurora.
Driven mad by jealousy, I married the rumored sinister and ruthless Incubus CEO, Damien Sinclair, out of spite to prove I wasn’t unwanted.
For three years after the marriage, I constantly clashed with Aurora but always ended up defeated.
Every time, either Damien discovered my plans in advance and interrupted them, or I inadvertently shot myself in the foot.
Until recently, when my schemes to frame Aurora were exposed, I was utterly disgraced, and many friends severed ties with me.
I knew Damien always despised my malicious behavior and favored Aurora.
Thinking that instead of waiting for him to kick me while I’m down like everyone else, I might as well leave him first to appear more carefree.
When I sent the message asking for a divorce, Damien was in the middle of a very important meeting.
But he almost immediately called back.
“Reason.” The man’s voice came through the phone.
I laughed maliciously, “Last time, the bathroom door wasn’t closed properly, and I accidentally saw your tail exposed, all slippery and gross.”
So now, when I said something like “I can’t leave him,” even I didn’t believe it, let alone Damien…
“Are you sure you don’t want a divorce?” Without the expected sneer, the man’s deep voice pulled me back to reality.
“I don’t want to for now.”
I observed Damien’s expression but couldn’t see any joy on his face.
“As you wish.” After a few seconds, the man picked up the half-signed divorce agreement on the table and fed it into the shredder.
The barrage of comments popped up again:
[What’s up with the vicious supporting female character? Why does it seem like she suddenly grew a brain?]
[Lilith Chambers finally wised up and is ready to cling to the second male lead? Unfortunately, it’s a bit late now; the second male lead’s resentment has already taken root and spread.]
[Who says it’s too late? The timing is perfect. Didn’t you see the second male lead’s lips curl up in delight when he tossed the divorce papers? And that shredder is hilarious; how afraid is this scumbag man that the supporting female character will change her mind the next second?]
[Supporting female character, keep it up, don’t stop, intensify your efforts. The second male lead is a sickly Incubus, with no morals, and you’re a wicked woman; you two are a perfect match. Take him down, and you won’t have to worry about competing with the female lead Aurora.]
