Chapter 10
That day, after Auntie took Tommy to school, I began sorting through the clutter.
Unexpectedly, I discovered a wedding photo in the corner of the storage room.
In the photo, I looked blank, like a soulless puppet, while beside me, Jonathan wore a smile tinged with a hint of melancholy in his eyes.
How unsightly, I thought, and instinctively tried to turn the photo over.
Suddenly, there was a clatter.
A small box wedged behind the photo fell to the ground.
Curious, I opened it to find Tommy’s birth certificate, along with… a note I once passed to Jonathan during class, and a love letter.
It was written by sixteen-year-old Jonathan to sixteen-year-old Annabelle.
In that moment, I couldn’t quite discern what I felt inside.
It was like a dish of stir-fried bitter melon with vinegar-besides the sour bitterness, my mouth was filled with regret.
This love letter was sixteen years late.
I stared at it blankly for a while, then casually put it back in its place.
