My Contract Husband Won't Behave - Chapter 51
“Who did she just call? Bo Jiusi? Her husband is Master Jiu?”
The table erupted in disbelief.
“She’s beautiful and her family isn’t poor, but she still married way above her station.”
The executives in the conference room were equally stunned.
Master Jiu was married? When had that happened? Why had no one in Bo Group heard?
Frost covered Bo Jiusi’s brow. His voice remained controlled. “Stop making trouble. I’m in a meeting.”
The words carried through Nie Jingzhi’s phone. Her classmates exchanged knowing, mocking looks.
Lin Wanrou seized the opportunity. “Hear that? He’s in a meeting and can’t be bothered with you!”
“It isn’t that he won’t buy a ring. You’re worthless to him! You’re probably the only one who takes this marriage seriously.”
Every cruel word traveled through the call into Bo Jiusi’s ears.
His face darkened. “Who’s shouting?”
Lin Wanrou stiffened.
“Where are you?” he asked.
Nie Jingzhi smiled at the camera. “A class reunion.”
Bo Jiusi’s mouth moved, but before he could continue, she said, “I won’t interrupt your meeting. Goodbye.”
She ended the call decisively.
Mockery immediately spread through the room.
Lin Wanrou raised her chin in triumph. “See? Nie Jingzhi, your husband doesn’t care about you!”
“He won’t even buy a ring, yet you claim you married well?”
Everyone looked at her with amusement and pity.
“She was so dazzling as the school beauty. So many rich heirs chased her and she rejected them all. Who would have imagined that after marrying the capital’s famous Master Jiu, she’d be neglected like this?”
The women gloated as if finally releasing years of resentment.
“Serves her right. If she wanted to marry up, she should have expected to cry in a luxury car.”
Nie Jingzhi remained seated and calmly sipped her tea.
If she could accept praise, she could accept slander. Had she not heard enough of both over the years?
Her indifference soon made those hoping for a spectacle lose interest. The voices faded.
The class president coughed awkwardly and urged everyone to eat.
Then someone knocked.
The door opened, and Feng Wu entered first.
Ten bodyguards in black followed, each carrying a dark-blue velvet box. They formed two neat rows.
Silence fell instantly.
Feng Wu stopped before Nie Jingzhi and bowed slightly. “Madam, Master Jiu sent me.”
Nie Jingzhi arched a brow. *Madam*?
If she remembered correctly, this was his first time addressing her that way.
Guessing what was coming, she leaned back. “What for?”
Feng Wu waved.
All ten guards opened their boxes.
Ten diamond rings blazed beneath the lights.
Each was a custom design from Lumière, one of the world’s finest jewelry houses, and no duplicate existed anywhere.
The smallest center stone was five carats. The largest, a pink diamond, had reportedly sold for eighty million at auction the previous year.
Someone gasped.
“Those are Lumière rings! I saw them in a magazine. A custom order takes two years!”
“That pink diamond—isn’t it the Pink Star from the news? The one worth eighty million?”
“Eighty million? You remember wrong. Eighty million US dollars!”
“My God…”
Nie Jingzhi showed little reaction as her gaze passed over the rings.
Across from her, Lin Wanrou had gone white.
Feng Wu spoke respectfully. “Madam, Master Jiu is in an important meeting and couldn’t leave, so he sent me to deliver the rings.”
At least he had some conscience.
Nie Jingzhi glanced at Lin Wanrou. “Why so many?”
“Master Jiu was concerned you might dislike his choice, so he left the decision to you. Choose whichever you prefer.”
Nie Jingzhi smiled. She liked this method—simple, effortless, and entirely in her control.
“What if I like them all?”
Feng Wu froze.
“He sent you all this way.” Nie Jingzhi paused and winked slyly. “Can’t I have them all?”
The room went dead silent.
Even the cheapest ring could buy an apartment in the capital. She wanted all ten?
Wasn’t that excessive?
Feng Wu recovered. “I’ll ask Master Jiu.”
He called and quietly reported, “Madam says she wants all of them.”
Silence answered for an instant.
Then Bo Jiusi’s irritated voice came through.
“You need to ask about that? If she wants them, give them to her. Would I ever deny her something so small?”
Repeated interruptions during his meeting had left him impatient, especially over such a trivial matter.
Because the room was silent, everyone heard.
They drew sharp breaths.
She asked for all ten, and Master Jiu truly gave them to her?
Feng Wu was momentarily speechless as Nie Jingzhi took the phone from him.
Looking at the stern man on-screen, she turned her voice impossibly sweet. “Honey… It’s too hard to choose. Which one would look best on me?”
Wasn’t she deliberately acting spoiled in front of everyone?
Bo Jiusi stared at her foxlike smile. His throat went strangely dry.
He did not expose her, answering patiently, “Any of them. They’re all yours. Wear a different one every day.”
He added casually, “Wear whichever suits your mood. Wear all ten if you want.”
Nie Jingzhi laughed. “Ten rings on ten fingers? Do you think I’m some nouveau riche show-off?”
Seeing her finally smile, the faintest curve touched his lips. He said no more.
Nie Jingzhi selected the simplest ring: platinum and diamonds, with a modest but exquisitely cut center stone, understated and distinguished.
She slipped it onto her ring finger and admired it with satisfaction.
“This one. Send the rest home.”
She deliberately said *home*, not the Nie villa. Everyone assumed she meant the home she shared with Bo Jiusi and gasped again. Lin Wanrou looked ready to grind her teeth to dust.
Nie Jingzhi ended the call with a smile and returned the phone.
Feng Wu packed everything and withdrew with the guards.
Silence remained.
Nie Jingzhi sipped her tea, then raised her hand and turned the ring on her finger.
The diamond scattered points of light directly into Lin Wanrou’s aching eyes.
“What were you saying?” Nie Jingzhi asked her with a gentle, piercing smile. “That my husband doesn’t care about me? That he won’t buy me a ring?”
Lin Wanrou was white as paper.
“He remembered to send rings during a meeting.” Nie Jingzhi lifted her hand, flashing the diamond in her face. “What has your husband, with his tens of millions in assets, ever bought you?”
Lin Wanrou’s lips trembled without producing a word.
Someone whispered, “Master Jiu dotes on her… He sent rings even during a meeting.”
“And he treats them like nothing. Ten to choose from, with the rest delivered home.”
“Did Nie Jingzhi save the galaxy in her last life?”
The reunion suddenly felt pointless to her.
Nie Jingzhi set down her tea, rose, and took her purse.
She smiled at Lin Wanrou. “Remember to invite me next time. I rather enjoy listening to you talk.”
Lin Wanrou’s face alternated red and white.
“Enjoy your meal. I have somewhere to be.”
Nie Jingzhi gave her one last meaningful smile and swept from the room.
Silence lasted long after the door closed, until someone murmured, “How is she so lucky?”
Lin Wanrou sat there with fists clenched, nails digging into her palms.
