Chapter 1

There wasn’t much work at the firm today, so I left early and drove to the mall.

Thomas arrived half an hour later.

I was busy deciding on the flavor of the tea when he suddenly appeared and wrapped his arm around my waist. “Choose the sweet orange.”

I was startled. “How do you walk without making a sound?”

“You were just too focused.”

“Do you want a drink?” I asked him, turning my head after ordering an orange juice.

“I’ll just have yours.”

I pouted and switched to a larger cup.

On the first floor of the mall, besides cosmetics and skincare products, there were many jewelry stores.

Thomas and I picked one to enter.

“What type of ring are you looking for?” the store clerk asked at the counter.

“A wedding ring,” Thomas replied, pointing to his phone. “I need to take a call outside.”

I glanced back at him, accustomed to his busyness.

I had already browsed the rings on the website beforehand, so I directly asked the clerk to help me try them on.

Unfortunately, my frame is small, and my fingers are too slender. The store didn’t have my size, so I wore them loosely, and they didn’t look good.

Thomas’s call took quite a while. I tried on several other styles, but none were satisfactory.

Finally, when I put the first ring back on, Thomas returned.

“Why did it take so long?”

Thomas’s face was somber, looking somewhat grim. “Work stuff.”

I rarely inquire about his work, so I showed him my ring. “Does it look good?”

He said, “It looks good. You look good in anything.”

“It’s just too big.”

“It can be ordered in your size,” the clerk quietly reminded.

I was about to speak when Thomas’s phone rang again.

Twice in a row, it dampened my mood.

A few minutes later, I walked out of the store. Thomas saw me and was slightly taken aback. “What’s wrong?”

“If you’re busy, we can come back another day.”

“Bella…”

I was used to suppressing my bad feelings, so I shook my head. “It’s okay, I understand.”

At that moment, I heard someone calling me from nearby.

“Bella?”

I looked over; it was Amelia.
