My Boyfriend Watches Me Like I'm a Thief - Chapter 6
Fu Ming’s car drove away.
The symposium continued the next day.
Feeling listless, I listened to the discussions and tried hard to concentrate on taking notes.
My junior suddenly leaned over.
“Senior, didn’t you sleep well?”
“No. I’m all right.”
He handed me a bottle of coffee.
“Senior, have something to perk you up.
“This symposium matters so much to you. Don’t miss out because you’re sleepy.”
“All right. Thanks.” I took it and had a couple of sips.
I did feel a little more alert.
But the conference hall seemed to be getting hotter and hotter.
Even taking off my jacket didn’t help.
Then my junior took my hand again and scratched my palm twice.
“Senior, are you feeling unwell?”
I felt uncomfortable.
“I’m going to the restroom.”
I was growing unbearably hot. In the restroom, I pulled open my collar and splashed cold water on my face, but it did no good.
I had no choice but to ask the professor to excuse me and go back to my room.
While I was feeling miserable inside, someone rang the doorbell.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me, Senior. You didn’t seem well, so I bought you a thermometer, cold medicine, painkillers, and something for a fever. You can see which one you need.”
I got out of bed and opened the door.
I looked at his hands. They were empty.
“Where’s the medicine?” I asked, confused.
When I looked up, I found him staring fixedly at my disheveled, open collar.
“Senior, you’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?”
“Doing what?”
“Seducing me.” He advanced on me, step by step. “Don’t tell me you didn’t know what it meant when I scratched your palm.”
I backed away. “I didn’t know. What are you talking about?”
He smiled, looking me up and down.
“Didn’t your friend tell you? It’s an invitation to hook up. It’s a signal in our circle. You’re gay. How could you not know?
“You even had a huge fight with your fuck buddy so you could hook up with me. Looks like you really want me to fuck you. After all, you drank the drug I gave you.
“You look so innocent, Senior, but you’re such a slut behind closed doors. I saw you kissing your fuck buddy. I came especially to satisfy you today!”
…
Fuck. Everything Fu Ming had said was true!
My junior knew perfectly well I was taken and was still trying to come between us!
Before he’d even finished speaking, he lunged at me.
He hadn’t so much as touched my clothes when a kick sent him flying back.
Fu Ming came out of my room and looked down at him on the floor.
My junior stared in bewilderment.
“You… didn’t you leave?”
Fu Ming kicked him.
“A filthy mind really does see filth everywhere.”
…
Why did I feel as though that was aimed at me too?
Fu Ming planted his foot on my junior’s leg.
“Does the idea of an ordinary romantic relationship just not exist in your head?
“My boyfriend and I had a fight. We didn’t break up. He’s angry with me. I’m desperate to make it up to him. Why would I leave?”
He sneered.
“I worked hard enough to become his boyfriend. You think I’d let a piece of trash like you snatch him away? Who do you take me for?”
My junior had nothing to say.
Who would have thought that all Fu Ming’s vigilance would actually stop someone trying to steal his boyfriend?
My junior was taken away by the police on suspicion of drugging and sexually assaulting me.
Fu Ming had already contacted a lawyer. There was no way he’d let him walk away unscathed.
After finishing the call, he turned, saw me, and paused.
He lowered his head.
“Go on. Tell me off.”
“For what?”
With the air of a man resigned to whatever was coming, he began condemning himself.
“I’m possessive. I get jealous. I’m always on guard against someone coming between us. I wish you’d have eyes for no one but me for the rest of your life.
“I’m really no different from Lu Shang or your junior. I’m a despicable, selfish little man.”
I shook my head. “You’re different from them.”
“How?”
“I don’t like them. I only like you.”
…
If I’d known sweet talk could be this lethal to me, I wouldn’t have said it.
Oh God, I was going to die.
***
I never thought Fu Ming and I would really stay together in the end.
When I said I was willing to announce our relationship, he lost his mind.
He had the national media report on us relentlessly. Whenever he appeared in public, he mentioned my name, terrified that someone else might set their sights on me.
Publicity that conspicuous eventually reached Lu Shang.
By then, he was bankrupt. And for some reason, whenever he went out, he either stepped in shit or had feces thrown at him.
Staring in disbelief at the announcement about Fu Ming and me, he let out a shrill scream.
“No! This isn’t real!”
As all those earlier incidents came back to him, he slapped himself.
“What a clown I’ve been!”
Seeing me looking so bright and polished on his screen, he decided to take vicious revenge.
Unfortunately for him, our institute handled classified work and had excellent security. I’d already warned them about the danger he posed. Never mind finding me—he could barely get inside.
Whenever I went out, Fu Ming or his family’s driver picked me up and dropped me off. Beside the driver was a bodyguard who had retired from the special forces.
Fu Ming lived in an exclusive villa community that didn’t allow outsiders in without permission. Lu Shang happened to be on his blacklist.
As for the research conferences and high-society gatherings I attended, Lu Shang had no invitation. He couldn’t even enter the hotels.
He had no opportunity to get anywhere near me.
How could he take revenge?
He and I had long since become people from two different worlds.
The End.
