chapter 7
As soon as the professor entered the classroom, the first thing he asked was:
“Is Song Yan here today?”
“Here.” The boy lazily raised his hand in response.
So my good husband’s name is Song Yan.
“Finally seeing you in person, that’s rare.”
The professor shot him a glance and began the lecture.
Song Yan slouched in his seat, trying to listen for a while, then started dozing off.
Bored, I decided to take notes for him.
Whether I understood or not, I just wrote everything down.
I buried my head in note-taking for most of the class before Song Yan finally lifted his sleepy head, propped his chin, and watched me write.
When the bell rang, he asked me in a hoarse voice:
“Girlfriend, what’s your name?”
“Yu Sisi.”
“Alright.” He patted my head with his hand. “Sit here and wait for me, I’m going out for a smoke.”
Song Yan had just left when a slender, fair hand with luxurious manicured nails tapped on my desk.
“Hey.”
I looked up and saw my good friend with the Tech-for-Nation face from yesterday.
“Hi, you’re in the same department as Song Yan?”
The beauty didn’t answer, frowning as she asked, “Are you really together with Song Yan?”
“Yeah.”
Her brows furrowed even tighter. “You don’t even know him, and just because he gave you tens of thousands, you agreed to be with him?”
“Yeah.”
“Do you have no bottom line? You’d give up your dignity for money?”
I was baffled.
“Do you hear yourself? Should I give up money for dignity instead?”
The beauty got anxious. “You-what kind of person are you!”
“Of course, I’m a diligent worker.” I thought for a moment and added, “Don’t even think about stealing my job. Cutting off someone’s income is like killing their parents-be careful, I won’t let it go.”
“Who wants your job?” Song Yan strolled in from the back door.
I immediately switched my expression, lowering my gaze pitifully.
“No one.”
Song Yan frowned and glanced at her. “Why are you bothering my girlfriend?”
I tugged at Song Yan’s sleeve, aggrieved:
“It’s nothing, honey. Don’t make things hard for Senior Sister. Even though she said I have no dignity or bottom line, she didn’t mean it.”
Song Yan glared at the beauty. “Jealous now? Too late.”
Then he pulled me into his arms, gently stroking my head and comforting me softly:
“Sisi, be good. Don’t pay attention to her. Later, I’ll take you shopping for bags and clothes to make it up to you.”
I couldn’t help wanting to look up and ask, “Are you really buying, or just pretending? If it’s real, can I get cash instead?”
But I didn’t get the chance, because just as I was about to look up, Song Yan seemed to know what I was thinking and calmly pressed my head down.
“You two… Disgusting!”
The beauty cursed in a sweet voice and walked away in her high heels.
Song Yan let go of me. “Alright, drop the act. You’re really good at this.”
“Standing up for the boss is my duty.”
I sat next to him proudly, and from afar, I saw the Tech-for-Nation face friend’s back and couldn’t help gossiping.
“Baby, what did she do to make you mad?”
Song Yan glanced at her back, annoyed. “What else? She found some land contractor in his thirties or forties and cheated on me.”
“Wait, you’re so handsome and rich, why would she go for some old guy?”
“She’s blind.” Song Yan leaned in, lowering his voice to complain:
“I’d never dated before. She followed me around for a year, so I thought I’d give it a try. We dated for a month, then she said her birthday was coming up and kept hinting for a designer bag.
“The bag was only twenty thousand, but I thought it was too extravagant and didn’t agree. I specially ordered her a BMW, but on her birthday, she disappeared. The next night, I saw her get out of an old guy’s car, saying that if I wouldn’t buy her things, plenty of others would. She told me if I didn’t have money, I shouldn’t date and waste her time.
“I got mad when I heard that. She can say anything about me, but saying I’m broke?”
“Oh-” I suddenly understood.
So that’s how I got this bargain.
“Wasted my first love.”
I patted his shoulder solemnly. “It’s okay, you still have me. First love might be wasted, but twenty thousand definitely won’t be. I’ll give you the ultimate VIP romance experience.”
Song Yan shot me a look. “Do a good job and keep me happy, and renewing for another year or so won’t be a problem.”
As expected, capitalists are experts at painting big promises.
