chapter 25
Just as the two of them retreated from my place, the doorbell rang again.
Song Yan stood at my doorstep, travel-worn and dragging a suitcase.
I immediately blocked the door. “What are you doing? Even though you gave me two hundred thousand and I only gave you two thousand, I never said accommodation was included.”
“Sisi, I can’t afford rent anymore. Let me stay for a few days, okay?” Song Yan coaxed as he squeezed his way inside. “Be good, I’ll let you touch my abs every day from now on.”
“…I’m not really interested in touching them anymore.”
“Then you can touch somewhere else, as long as it counts toward the rent.”
“…”
I suspected he was flirting, but I had no proof.
Forget it, anyway… I’m not losing out.
Living together actually felt pretty nice.
Song Yan was clearly swamped with work himself, but he still rushed home to cook for me. If he really couldn’t make it, he’d bring me takeout.
A few times, seeing him tired, I took the initiative to cook.
Then he’d show me with his actions that he wasn’t tired at all.
Chen Jiajia and Xuanxuan also started dating one after another.
Jiang Yifan came to see me once, when I was curled up with chips watching a drama.
Song Yan had just come out of the bathroom, toweling his damp hair as he went to open the door.
By the time I got there, Jiang Yifan had already left.
After that, I saw Jiang Yifan less and less.
Occasionally, I’d run into him walking his dog with his roommate brother.
One night, I was craving something and went downstairs to the convenience store for oden. On my way back, I bumped into Jiang Yifan and his brother returning home together.
They hadn’t even entered the elevator yet, but the smell of alcohol was already in the air.
Jiang Yifan was in a suit, a hint of drunkenness in his eyes, while his brother seemed completely wasted, leaning against Jiang Yifan. When he saw me, he greeted me weakly, “Landlady sis.”
“Hi.” I stood on the other side of the elevator, clutching my oden. “Did you two go drinking together?”
Jiang Yifan nodded. “Yeah, he was in a bad mood.”
His brother interjected, “What are you talking about? Clearly it was you-”
“Ding”-the elevator arrived just in time.
Jiang Yifan quickly covered his brother’s mouth. “He’s drunk and talking nonsense. I’ll take him back to sleep.”
As I watched the two of them stagger away, Song Yan quietly appeared behind me. “Enjoying the view?”
I replied speechlessly, “Can’t I even look?”
Song Yan was great in every way, except he was jealous.
Especially jealous of Jiang Yifan.
He blocked my view. “No, you can’t look. Especially not at men who have ulterior motives toward you.”
I was still speechless. “It’s been half a year, okay? Maybe he’s already moved on.”
“Impossible.”
“We’re all adults. Why not?”
“You don’t understand-a man’s intuition,” Song Yan declared firmly.
“…”
The next morning, I was going to deliver something to Jiang Yifan and his roommate brother.
Song Yan hurriedly stopped me. “It’s a small thing, I’ll do it.”
But less than a minute later, Song Yan was back.
“So fast?” I stared at Song Yan’s inexplicably flushed face.
“Yeah,” Song Yan looked thoughtful, then slowly said, “My intuition might not be that accurate.”
“Really?” I was super curious. “What did you see? Did Senior Jiang Yifan bring a girl home?”
“It’s just…” Song Yan hesitated for a long time. “Forget it, you’ll find out eventually. Anyway, it has nothing to do with us. Let’s do something more productive.”
“Hmm… sure.”
