chapter 24
Despite Song Yan’s strong objections, the younger brothers still managed to move in successfully.
Chen Jiajia and Xuanxuan pretended to be gentle and charming every day, dressing up even to take out the trash, complete with a pure and seductive makeup look.
After Song Yan moped around by himself for a while, Chen Jiajia and Xuanxuan couldn’t stand it anymore and pulled him aside for a private talk. No one knows what the three of them discussed, but Song Yan came out looking much more relaxed.
Later, while we were watching a show together, I took the opportunity to complain to the two of them.
“Song Yan has been so clingy lately, I barely have any personal space.”
Xuanxuan stuffed grapes into her mouth. “Clingy is good, isn’t it? That means he isn’t having an affair.”
Chen Jiajia chimed in, “Exactly! There are so many jerks out there now. A loyal, clingy boyfriend like Song Yan is a rare find.”
Me: “?”
The two who always took my side were suddenly speaking up for Song Yan.
Moreover, after complaining to them, Song Yan started seeking me out much less frequently.
I had a vague feeling that something was off, but I had no proof.
Until one afternoon, while I was at home buried in my thesis, someone rang my doorbell.
When I opened the door, it was Senior Jiang Yifan. Apparently, he had already entered the workforce, still looking refined, though his gaze was a bit sharper now.
He was surprised to see me too.
“Long time no see, Sisi.”
I was a little surprised. “Long time no see. Senior, how did you know I was here?”
“I didn’t. I just heard from a friend that the rent here is cheap, and the requirements…” He paused for two seconds. “I fit them pretty well.”
“Hehehe, Senior, you definitely fit.” I was so embarrassed I wanted to curl my toes, feeling like my image was ruined.
If only I hadn’t let Chen Jiajia and the others write the rental requirements.
They’re the ones trying to pick up handsome guys, but I’m the one losing face.
Speak of the devil, the door next to me opened and two heads popped out.
“Senior Jiang Yifan, what brings you here?”
Chen Jiajia’s eyes were like a little spy’s. “Senior, did you come especially to see our Sisi?”
“No, just a coincidence, nothing to do with you two.” I shot them a warning look, then turned back with a smile. “Senior, there’s a younger brother looking for a roommate. Let me show you the place.”
With that, I took Jiang Yifan to see the room.
The younger brother was a freshman, eighteen or nineteen years old, with fair, tender skin and pure eyes, though a bit short-about up to Jiang Yifan’s chin. He opened the door and greeted us politely:
“Hello, Landlord Sister. Hello, Brother.”
Jiang Yifan adjusted his glasses and discreetly sized up the younger brother.
“Hello.”
Neither of them said much, but they seemed satisfied with each other.
That afternoon, Jiang Yifan signed the Contract and moved in.
I did my duty and helped him tidy up the room.
“Sisi.” Jiang Yifan watched me bustling around and suddenly asked, “Are you still with Song Yan?”
I didn’t think much of it. “Yeah, we’re still together.”
Jiang Yifan’s hand, which was hanging up clothes, suddenly froze, his brows furrowing. “Sisi, did you… did you really go do Postpartum Confinement care?”
“Postpartum Confinement?” I froze, then quickly shook my head. “No, no, that was just my imagination running wild-a misunderstanding.”
Of course, even if it wasn’t a misunderstanding, I probably would have done it anyway.
“That’s good.” Jiang Yifan breathed a sigh of relief, hesitated for a moment, and still asked, “Sisi, I want to know, did you really not have any feelings for me back then?”
I smiled awkwardly. “I guess I was already deeply in love with Song Yan by then. He was all I could see.”
Whether I had feelings or not, I can’t remember anymore.
It’s just that Song Yan gave me so much at the time.
Back then, seeing Song Yan was as joyful as seeing my bank balance-of course I couldn’t see anyone else.
Jiang Yifan didn’t say anything, and I felt a bit lost.
Luckily, the younger brother appeared at the door just in time. “Sister, it’s already evening. You should go rest. I can handle the rest.”
“True, it’s getting late. You guys take your time, I’ll head out first.”
I took the chance to slip away quickly.
Passing by the fire escape, I unexpectedly heard Xuanxuan’s voice.
“Xiao Song, come here quick. Senior Jiang Yifan came to rent a room today, and I just heard him asking Sisi if she had feelings for him. It’s a bit dangerous. Maybe you should pack up and move in too.”
Chen Jiajia’s voice followed right after, “Why are you still worrying about being clingy or not? The closer you are, the better your chances. If Senior Jiang Yifan steals Sisi away, you’ll be the one crying.”
“Ahem.” I coughed lightly.
Xuanxuan reacted instantly. “Okay, Dad, I got it. Hanging up now.”
I crossed my arms and looked at the two of them. “Don’t pretend. Planning a mutiny, huh?”
“Hehehe, we’re just helping you train Song Yan to be the perfect boyfriend!”
The two of them came over, grinning mischievously, and hugged me, bombarding me with their nonsense-one responsible for twisted logic, the other for flattery.
In less than half an hour, I shamefully cooled off.
