chapter 13
Song Yan was angry.
He didn’t want me to accompany him to class, nor did he reply to my messages.
He even walked side by side with girls on the Campus several times.
As luck would have it, I ran into them every single time.
I was forced to wear a hat, mask, and sunglasses wherever I went. Whenever I saw him, I’d gear up and make a quick getaway, fully committing to pretending not to see him.
Xuanxuan and Chen Jiajia were dragged into my daily evasions. For a while, our dorm felt like a guerrilla squad, eyes everywhere, ears on high alert.
I racked my brains for days, but still had no idea how to make it up to him.
Send roses? Arrange a heart shape downstairs? Write an apology letter?
Unable to come up with anything, I sent Song Yan a WeChat message, asking to talk.
If I could coax him, great. If not, I’d just quit.
After all, I’d already made the money, and I couldn’t keep up this guerrilla warfare any longer.
Night fell before Song Yan finally replied.
He sent me a location-it was a bar.
At the entrance, I called Song Yan.
But it was his friend who answered.
“Is this Sister-in-law? Come on in, Song Yan is drunk.”
The music inside the bar was deafening, young men and women with glamorous makeup coming and going, the dance floor a wave of heat.
As soon as I walked in, a few guys waved at me.
“Sister-in-law, over here.”
I’d never met them before, and had no idea how they recognized me at a glance.
Walking over, I saw Song Yan lying on the booth sofa, his head tilted, arm lightly covering his eyes, only his thin lips and sharp jawline exposed.
“Sister-in-law, did you have a fight with Song Yan? He’s been drinking for days. Since you’re here, go cheer him up.”
“Yeah, Sister-in-law, Song Yan really likes you. Look how pitiful he is-don’t hold it against him.”
The guys chimed in one after another, leaving me at a loss.
I crouched down beside Song Yan, gently shook the hand covering his forehead, and asked softly, “Song Yan, are you okay?”
Song Yan frowned and grabbed my restless hand.
“Song Yan? Didn’t you call me ‘husband’ every day before?”
Just then, the song changed and the music paused for a few seconds, so everyone around heard his words.
“Wow, that’s sweet!”
“He barely spoke before, but now that Sister-in-law’s here, he’s suddenly so articulate.”
The teasing voices rose one after another, and my face flushed bright red.
“Cut it out, a few less words won’t kill you.” Song Yan tossed a pillow at them, then stood up unsteadily, pinching his temples.
I whispered to him, “Should I take you home?”
“Mm.” Song Yan draped an arm over my shoulder, his steps a bit unsteady.
He really liked putting his arm around my shoulder. With our height difference, I often suspected he was using me as a walking stick.
