Chapter 2
On the way home, it suddenly started raining heavily.
I didn’t have an umbrella, so I hurriedly tried to shield myself with my backpack.
As a result, I stepped into a puddle and fell.
I was soaked and limping as I moved under the eaves, intending to call Zhou Xuan.
-No answer.
The message “I hurt myself, can you come pick me up?” was just typed into the chat box.

He was wearing a white shirt, sleeves rolled up to his forearms, looking relaxed and pleased as he gazed across the table.
Sitting across from him-was my best friend, Lin Xingyue.
She was holding a red velvet box, inside which was a sparkling pink diamond ring.
The rain roared, and the glass window separated us.
I couldn’t hear anything.
But I could clearly see her mouth forming the words: “Thank you, Senior Zhou, I really like it.”
I stood outside the window, dazed.
Cold seeped up through the dirty, wet hem of my skirt, chilling me to the bone.
My backpack and the documents inside were soaked through as well.
I couldn’t help but shiver.
Just before the tears fell, Zhou Xuan suddenly seemed to sense something, turning his head to meet my gaze through the window.
He stood up abruptly: “…Jiangjiang.”
