Chapter 14
A long, long time ago, when Zhou Xuan and I were still in middle school.
I fell and injured my leg on the way home from school on my bike.
At that time, we were in a cold war, but when he picked me up in a panic and rushed me to the hospital, he almost shed tears.
“Li Jiangjiang, it’s all my fault, please don’t let anything happen to you.”
Now, I step out the door and hand him the pathology report.
“The doctor said my test results are not benign.”
“…What do you mean?”
I laughed mockingly:
“It means I’m going to die soon, and then you can be with Lin Xingyue openly and happily, right?”
He froze in place, unable to move for a long time.
After a while, he reached out, trying to hug me: “No, Jiangjiang, we can try to treat…”
Before he could finish.
In the bustling hospital corridor, I suddenly raised my hand and slapped him hard.
“Do you know what the doctor said? My chronic stomach issues are related to previous excessive drinking, stomach bleeding, and recurring gastritis-”
Zhou Xuan stared at me blankly.
I think he must have remembered.
During that time, I was pushing myself to the limit to improve my grades.
As someone with a fragile stomach since childhood, I ended up in the hospital twice due to recurring stomach issues.
Even under such circumstances, I accompanied him to meet clients.
The investors on the other side saw him as young and deliberately made things difficult, forcing him to drink.
I snatched the bottle and drank it all, then vomited messily in the restroom.
“You still have to negotiate the contract with them. If you get drunk and lose your clarity, many things could go wrong.”
Back then, Zhou Xuan held me with red eyes.
Saying he wanted to give me the best life.
It was all a lie.
All deceitful.
The flames of fear and anger in my heart burned hotter and hotter, making my blood feel like molten lava, boiling and crashing through my veins.
I took a couple of breaths, raised my hand again, and slapped him once more.
I wanted to hit him again, but Zhou Xuan grabbed my wrist.
Those eyes, usually indifferent, were now filled with clear pain.
He whispered, “You’ll be okay… Jiangjiang, you’ll get better.”
“Chemotherapy, surgery, we’ll find a way, don’t be afraid.”
He pulled my wrist and drew me into his embrace.
And I lowered my lashes, hiding all emotions, as if finally unable to hold back, I buried my face in his chest and cried out in pain.
