Move Forward, Don't Look Back - Chapter 24
After the delivery, Shi Chuan continued with his work.
The clients in the room were still normal, but Shi Chuan had encountered those who went crazy after getting drunk, swinging bottles to hit people.
Unfortunately, he had been caught in such a situation once.
He lay in a hospital bed for a month.
While serving dishes, Shi Chuan was cautious. As he walked out with a tray, someone suddenly appeared, and Shi Chuan couldn’t avoid them.
He bumped into them and quickly bowed his head to apologize, but the person remained silent.
He wanted to retreat, but was suddenly drenched.
The hot water wasn’t scalding, just enough to cause pain without burning.
He lowered his head: “Sorry, sir, it’s all my carelessness.”
The person in front of him was relentless, smashing the water-filled kettle on his face twice: “Encountering a guest and not knowing to step aside, is this how your club trains you?”
The other people in the room were just watching the spectacle.
Shi Chuan lowered his head in humiliation: “I’m sor…”
Colleagues outside the door craned their necks.
Several people gathered together, watching him and laughing behind their hands.
Shi Chuan pinched his own flesh hard.
“You tell me, how should one apologize sincerely?” The man used the kettle, suddenly smashing it towards his head.
Shi Chuan was pushed outside the door, his head throbbing with pain.
The humility he struggled to maintain was on the verge of collapse.
Colleagues whispered in the corridor.
Everything made him feel embarrassed and painful.
Until footsteps came from the stairs.
The sound of high heels was somewhat familiar, accompanied by flattering voices:
“President Ming, the VIP suite has been prepared for you, along with your favorite appetizers.”
“This way, please.”
The voice came closer.
The person causing trouble was about to grab his collar, but he ignored it, stubbornly raising his head.
Ming Zhao.
It was her.
The face at the end of the corridor was both unfamiliar and familiar.
She remained dignified.
Life had treated her too well, leaving no trace on her face.
In the years since they parted, she seemed to have lived even better.
Her complexion was as good as peach blossoms on branches in March.
In those few seconds of his daze.
The high heels brushed past him.
Ming Zhao’s peripheral vision briefly met his gaze.
And then parted.
Shi Chuan knew, Ming Zhao recognized him.
He had fantasized about countless reunions.
Ming Zhao towards him, whether love or hate, at least once had such deep feelings.
Yet he never imagined that he would be so insignificant to her.
Like a speck of dust easily brushed away.
When being rejected by companies countless times, being ostracized by colleagues, being harassed by superiors, being humiliated by clients who once were inferior to him…
None of those moments made him feel as unwilling as now.
His body acted before his brain:
“Zhaozhao!”
He stumbled to his feet, using all his strength:
“Zhaozhao! I…”
But was once again thrown down, the person in front of him harshly punched his face.
He didn’t care.
Just watched her back.
Watched her, walking further and further away.
He forgot.
Whether in the past or now, Ming Zhao always moved forward.
Never looking back.
