Chapter 58 - Blood Seal
“What is Leng Yan trying to do?” Chu Jianfeng, holding a lamb leg, looked puzzled as Leng Yan suddenly ceased his resistance. However, knowing that Leng Yan always had a purpose behind his actions, Chu Jianfeng was curious but not worried.
“Elder, what’s this guy up to? Why isn’t he battling back?” Sang Tu inquired as he watched the arena.
“I don’t know. But he’s definitely not giving up. He probably has seen something we haven’t,” Mo Sang replied, frowning slightly.
In the blink of an eye, the blood-red rune approached Leng Yan. His fingers moved subtly, covertly gathering a protective magical technique to guard against the sudden attack.
As the rune neared, a sudden pull emerged. Leng Yan did not resist this pull and allowed himself to be drawn into the rune.
Hao Ge was surprised at how easily Leng Yan was sealed, frowning as he sensed something was amiss.
Once inside the pitch-black Void, Leng Yan expanded his spiritual awareness and could sense his seals and magical techniques lingering there. Dispelling the magical technique and retracting his seals, Leng Yan began to observe the surroundings.
The entire space spanned merely a mile, seemingly related to the strength of the rune’s creator, and it was otherwise empty, exuding a sense of dead silence.
“This must be a spatial seal, and that rune must be part of a sealing combination, although this method is unfamiliar to Leng Yan. Yet, within the rune, Leng Yan detected no spatial sealing runes.”
With furrowed brows, various shapes from the rune surfaced in Leng Yan’s mind. He was gradually convinced it was a seal form, but he couldn’t identify what seal it was.
Long Tian’s knowledge of seals was exceptionally profound. Even by Leng Yan’s standards, it surpassed many void calamity cultivators. Yet, when confronted with such a seal, Leng Yan found himself at a loss.
He took out the jade slip of seals given by Long Tian and began to review it once more…
The insights Long Tian had on seals seemed like fragments of memory, once again piecing together in Leng Yan’s mind. Although this was Leng Yan’s second time reading through the jade slip, compared to before, his expanded vision and increased cultivation level allowed his understanding to deepen.
Suddenly, Leng Yan’s eyes widened in surprise as he whispered, “An extra chapter, how can this be? Why didn’t I see this chapter the first time I read it?”
As it turned out, after reviewing Long Tian’s compiled insights on seals, an “extra chapter” appeared, containing some of Long Tian’s additional knowledge about seals.
“The Five Elements Seal is a seal passed down in the Five Elements Realm, where seals are formed using the essence power of the five elements to connect with the rules of the way of heaven. The Ancient God Seal, originating from ancient realms, uses unique ancient god power to carve symbols that communicate with the rules of heaven and earth. The Yin Evil Seal uses yin evil energy to form a seal that connects with the rules of the way of heaven. The Blood Seal, practiced by the Barbarian Tribe, uses their bodies as a medium and their essence blood to inscribe totems that connect with the rules of the way of heaven. The purpose of all sealing methods is to connect with these rules, though the represented symbols, shapes, and totems may differ.”
While Leng Yan perused the jade slip on seals, outside the seal, Hao Ge hovered the rune created by the seal combination in his palm, a contemptuous smile on his face. He had not expected Leng Yan to be so easily defeated by a single sealing.
Mo Sang, however, thought differently. He sensed something was unusual. Looking up at Hao Ge, he said, “Let him out!”
Although Mo Sang had spoken, Hao Ge should have promptly released Leng Yan, yet he disregarded Mo Sang’s words and declared loudly, “Hmph! How can I let him off so easily after offending me? I want him to suffer a bit.”
“Hao Ge, are you not listening to even me now?” Mo Sang said with a displeased look.
“Fifteen minutes! I’ll release him after fifteen minutes,” Hao Ge replied, a hint of malice flickering in his eyes.
Mo Sang looked somewhat helpless but did not say more, nodding slightly to give his tacit consent.
Their conversation took place in the Barbarian Language, which Chu Jianfeng couldn’t understand at all. However, he was certain they were discussing Leng Yan. Despite feeling anxious, Chu Jianfeng knew he couldn’t act rashly due to the significant power gap, so he forced himself to appear calm, smiling as he ate and drank.
To Mo Sang, Chu Jianfeng’s composure was seen as a sign of trust in his companion. This strengthened Mo Sang’s belief that Leng Yan had entered the sealing on purpose, likely with the intent to break it.
With this in mind, Mo Sang felt somewhat reassured because he didn’t believe that Leng Yan’s current cultivation level was capable of breaking the Barbarian Tribe’s blood seal. The blood seal technique was something only the Barbarian Tribe truly mastered.
Within the sealing, Leng Yan’s eyes gleamed with clarity. Although the extra chapter didn’t explain how to break the blood seal, his improved understanding of seals offered significant insights on how to tackle it.
Whether it was the blood seal, the ancient god seal made with mental power, or the five elements seal, all could be forcibly broken given sufficient strength. Though this seal was difficult to break from the outside, it could be exploded from within.
Despite this possibility, Leng Yan was not planning to break it that way. He had entered the sealing with the intention of learning the blood seal. Now that he had some understanding of it, he wanted to experiment. If he could master it, that would be ideal; if not, he had nothing to lose.
The blood seal uses essence blood as a medium to invoke the way of heaven’s rules. Leng Yan closed his eyes slightly, continuously deducing the seal in his mind. Finally, he decided to make his move. He opened his eyes, traced a golden aura with his fingertip, and released a drop of essence blood. Various shapes from the rune flashed through his mind, and in an instant, he chose one-it looked like a vortex.
Leng Yan’s fingers traced in the air, his movements seemingly simple but immensely complex. Throughout this process, he needed to use mental power to assist, completing the intricate patterns within the shape. An error in these patterns would render the blood seal ineffective.
After a few moments of tracing, a blood-red seal floated in the air. Gazing at it, Leng Yan shook his head in disappointment, as this seal turned out to be a failure.
From the surface, the seal looked deceptively real, but under the scrutiny of spiritual awareness, it became clear that its patterns were chaotic. In contrast, Hao Ge’s blood seal had clear, interconnected lines with an obvious flow.
With a flick of his finger, the failed blood seal dissolved into a blood-colored mist and dissipated.
“With just a glance at the memory, I couldn’t retain all the patterns. Even if the patterns were correct, success wouldn’t come so easily. Otherwise, everyone could use the blood seal!” Leng Yan mused, a self-deprecating smile on his face, realizing his naivety.
Yet, the blood seal is renowned as the most mysterious and powerful sealing method. Leng Yan was determined to learn it, and the only way seemed to be through “soul search.” However, attempting this in the Barbarian Tribe’s territory would be suicidal.
As Leng Yan was lost in thought, the sudden sound of arrows whizzing through the air from all directions caught him off guard. His expression changed as he swiftly leapt into the air.
Clang… Clang…
The sound of collisions echoed in the darkness. Using his spiritual awareness, Leng Yan realized the falling objects were black long spears. Although these spears weren’t magical weapons, they were as sharp as supreme-grade spiritual weapons.
If hundreds of these spears pierced him, it would be the end for Leng Yan!
“Hmph! From what you said earlier, I thought you were an honorable man, but turns out you’re quite insidious. Since you’ve made a move, I’ll return the favor.”
Leng Yan’s face turned cold as he waved his hands, summoning icy dragons to coil around him, growing larger and larger. Soon, ten massive ice dragons, each several dozen yards long, soared overhead.
As the magical technique took form, Leng Yan quickly retreated, setting up numerous defenses around him.
“Explode!”
Leng Yan shouted, and the ten ice dragons burst apart, sending a massive shockwave rippling outward.
Leng Yan’s strength now could rival that of someone at the Heavenly Realm, while Hao Ge’s power was only at the mid-stage of the primordial qi realm.
Leng Yan’s actions were completed in an instant. The violent explosion caused the blood seal in Hao Ge’s hand to vibrate erratically, with a series of patterns starting to unravel.
“How is this possible?” Hao Ge’s face turned ashen, his eyes filled with disbelief.
“You’re in danger, get out!” Sang Wen shouted, slamming the wooden table.
Hao Ge snapped out of it, realizing the threat. He quickly severed his connection with the blood seal, tossed it aside, and retreated rapidly.
Just as Hao Ge moved away, the blood seal exploded, causing the entire arena to tremble!
