Chapter 6
He mentioned divorce.
Perhaps it wasn’t just because he thought I was carrying someone else’s child.
It was more that he never liked me to begin with, nor was he satisfied with the marriage arranged by Grandpa.
The pregnancy simply gave him a reason to bring up divorce.
I gathered my thoughts and nodded.
If, when the time comes, he insists on divorce, I can let go and give him his freedom.
A trace of disappointment flashed in Huo Yanchuan’s eyes. “I’ll keep this from Grandpa for now. To the outside world, I’ll say I’m sending you abroad for vocal cord treatment.”
I gave him an “OK” gesture.
He got up and left my room.
Huo Yanchuan kept the news of my pregnancy under wraps.
He sent me abroad and arranged for me to stay in a villa.
Besides three maids to look after me, he also hired a driver and two family doctors.
One doctor was responsible for my health during pregnancy, and the other helped treat my vocal cords.
He even gave me a card with no spending limit.
You could say he took very good care of me.
I realized that, at his core, he was a warm and decent person.
Even though he thought his wife had cheated and was carrying another man’s child, he still treated me with care.
Perhaps, because he didn’t love me, he could be so magnanimous.
Or maybe, since I agreed to the divorce and didn’t cling to him, this was his way of compensating me.
A month later.
He flew abroad and moved into the villa.
He explained in a flat tone, “I’m here on a business trip. I’m not used to staying in hotels.”
Huo Yanchuan had always been busy. Every time he went on a business trip before, he would catch the earliest flight home as soon as work was done.
But this time, he stayed in the villa for three days.
During the day, he handled company affairs on his phone and computer.
Once he finished his work, he asked me offhandedly, “I want to go shopping. Do you want to come with me?”
I have a bit of social anxiety, so I usually write a shopping list for the maids or shop online.
I don’t dare go shopping in crowded places, nor do I dare eat out, afraid that others won’t understand sign language and will laugh at me.
Seeing my silence, he changed his approach: “We could go to the supermarket, eat out, watch a movie, take a walk in the park, or visit an art exhibition. Don’t stay cooped up in the villa all the time-you should get out more.”
So, all this roundabout talk was just his way of wanting to accompany me outside.
I signed to him: “How about going to the supermarket?”
He nodded. “Okay.”
Going out shopping and eating with Huo Yanchuan gave me a strong sense of security.
Because he could understand all my sign language and help me communicate with others.
After shopping at the supermarket, we ate at a restaurant. While waiting for the food, I signed to him: “Huo Yanchuan, how can you understand all my sign language?”
He handed me a glass of juice. “Because I studied it specially.”
No wonder he was so professional.
I took a sip of juice-it was my favorite flavor. “When did you learn?”
He looked at me. “Five years ago.”
