Chapter 5
Back at the private dining room, the atmosphere was thick with tension.
Someone finally spoke up. “Yedu, man, maybe you should go talk to her?”
“Talk about what? She’s the one being unreasonable.”
“Tangli was just joking around. Did she really have to be so aggressive?”
Another person chimed in, “But…”
Cheng Yedu cut him off angrily.
“But what? Tangli wasn’t wrong! Of course I’m not as intense in a relationship now as I was with my first love! Why can’t she handle the truth? If Lin Zhixia wants to be overly sensitive, that’s her problem.”
Another friend tried to reason with him.
“Lin Zhixia loves you so much. Of course she’d get jealous seeing your ex for the first time.”
Cheng Yedu scoffed.
“She should take a look at herself. Do I even like her that much?”
“Does she really think she has the right to throw a tantrum like this?”
A triumphant smirk crept onto Ji Tangli’s face.
The friend tried again.
“I bet Lin Zhixia is regretting it already. I guarantee the second she walked out that door, she started thinking about how to beg for your forgiveness.”
“Yedu, just go after her. You shouldn’t let a fight last overnight.”
Suddenly, Ji Tangli spoke up.
“What is wrong with all of you? I’m your childhood friend, and I’m right here! Why is no one concerned about how I feel? What kind of spell did that Lin Zhixia cast on you?”
The guy next to her replied, “They’re a couple having a fight. Lin Zhixia is Yedu’s girlfriend. We can’t exactly push him to break up with her and get with you, can we? That would make us terrible people. My girlfriend would kill me if she found out.”
“Exactly.”
Ji Tangli fell silent, defeated.
Cheng Yedu was still fuming.
He didn’t know when it had happened, but all his friends had started taking Lin Zhixia’s side.
That woman had worked so hard to wrap him around her finger, even winning over his childhood friends to speak up for her.
Did she think that meant she had him under her thumb?
He didn’t like her that much. She needed to get a grip.
