Chapter 4
As the money for my studies abroad grew, the return date of Cheng Yedu’s old flame drew nearer.
I knew this affair, which had lasted over a year, would soon come to an end.
Cheng Yedu confronted me, his face a cold mask.
“Lin Zhixia, I don’t know what’s gotten into you lately.”
“I’m not begging you to be in this relationship. If you want to be in it, then act like it. If you don’t, let’s just break up!”
Everyone expected me to back down, to apologize to him. After all, I was always the one placating him.
But I had saved enough money.
I lowered my head, tears welling in my eyes. My voice choked.
“Cheng Yedu, I’ve loved you since the first moment I saw you.”
“But I’ve always known you don’t feel the same way. I know I’ll never be as important to you as your first love.”
“I can’t be in a relationship I know I can’t win anymore.”
“Let’s break up.”
He froze.
Then he smirked.
“Fine. Don’t you regret it.”
I grabbed my bag, wiped my tears, and walked away, leaving him with the sight of my devastated back.
