Chapter 13
The next morning, Chen Yunhe called me, her voice full of excitement. “My manager asked me to come back to work, and even gave me a promotion and a raise!”
I was truly happy for her.
“Congratulations.”
She paused for a moment and said, “Zhiwei, thank you for helping me.”
“It was my fault in the first place.”
“Don’t say that.” Chen Yunhe let out a sigh. “Neither of us did anything wrong, we were just unlucky.”
She probably guessed something, yet didn’t ask a single question.
After chatting about all sorts of random things, we brought up some memories from high school.
Chen Yunhe said, “I remember you used to say in high school that you wanted to be a screenwriter and write scripts. Now you’ve really entered the entertainment industry, but you became an actress instead. Life never really turns out the way we want, huh? Still, you’ve come so far, there’s nothing to regret.”
Yes, there was a time when I truly wanted to be a screenwriter. I even wrote several stage plays in high school.
I liked writing real stories, writing stories that never existed, writing stories that made people laugh, made people cry, made people angry.
With a look of nostalgia on my face, I said, “Not necessarily.”
“What?”
I smiled and said nothing more.
After ending the call with her, I dialed my agent. “When does my last endorsement contract expire?”
My agent was busy on the other end, and after a burst of noise, she said, “The fifth of next month.”
“Alright.”
I walked over to the calendar, flipped to the next page, and drew a big circle around the fifth.
