Chapter 19
After leaving Ye Shuo’s company, I planned to return to work at my own company, but suddenly received a call from Ji Ming.
“Hello.” I answered, but there was silence on the other end, only the sound of rapid breathing. After a few seconds, the breathing gradually calmed down.
“Thank goodness, thank goodness, thank goodness you’re still here.”
“I’m here, what’s wrong?” I instinctively frowned.
“Mom and Dad are missing; they disappeared after getting off the plane.”
“What!”
“I don’t know if it’s a kidnapping; there’s been no news yet. Where are you? I’ll come find you.”
“I’m on my way to the company.”
“Okay.”
It’s Uncle!
I had just informed him about Mr. and Mrs. Ji returning to Beijing, and he immediately took action.
It’s him, it’s definitely him!
I quickly took out my phone and sent a message to Uncle, while hastening my steps towards the company.
I must force Jiang-Jie to confess everything and turn herself in before Uncle truly acts.
[Uncle, did you kidnap Mr. and Mrs. Ji?]
[I’m ready to expose them here; I’ve also found the lawyer from back then. Please don’t act impulsively, Uncle!]
[We can use legal means to bring down Ji Group, Uncle!]
[Uncle, there’s still time to turn back!]
I sent several messages but received no reply.
My heart tightened.
Upon reaching the company, the first thing I did was head straight to the Legal Department and drag Jiang-Jie into the small room in the archives.
Jiang-Jie seemed to have anticipated this, as her expression froze the moment she saw me rushing towards her.
The news of Mr. and Mrs. Ji’s disappearance had already spread throughout the company, leaving the entire office in a state of panic.
“Jiang-Jie, you must have heard about Mr. and Mrs. Ji’s disappearance by now.”
“I won’t say much; I’m in league with him. You have two choices now.” I lowered my voice, cold as a blade.
“One, confess the truth from back then and bring all the evidence to the police station yourself.”
“Two,” I pulled out a photo from my phone of her daughter in class, “your daughter in middle school will meet the same fate as Mr. and Mrs. Ji.”
This photo was actually taken when I passed by the campus upon returning.
Upon seeing the photo, Jiang-Jie’s face turned pale, her legs gave way, and she collapsed into the chair.
In reality, the employee records contained information about her family, and I had simply used this to take a photo to intimidate her.
Only then did Jiang-Jie reveal the truth of the past, detailing the misdeeds of Mr. and Mrs. Ji.
Her voice trembled, each word squeezed out like a hidden secret.
I sent the recording to Ye Shuo, asking him to expose it along with my previous allegation letter.
As Jiang-Jie handed over the evidence, she asked with a pale face, “Who are you really, and why are you avenging the Ji Family?”
I gently flipped through the stack of yellowed documents and finally spoke the words buried deep in my heart: “I’m the orphan of the victims.”
“Which victims?”
“These two.”
I pointed to the names of my parents, Zhou Yuli and Zhang Chongguang, on the list of deceased in the documents.
Jiang-Jie frowned, a puzzled expression on her face:
“But I remember these two didn’t have any children.”
Saying this, she pulled out the couple’s file from the pile.
Under the children section, it read “None.”
