Chapter 18
Spring finally arrived in Beijing, with willow catkins swirling in the air, causing me to sneeze repeatedly on the street.
“What? What did you say?” I asked while wiping my nose, answering Ji Ming’s call.
“I said, Mom and Dad are landing soon. Remember to come home for dinner tonight. I’ve been too busy to pick you up, but I’ll be home for dinner,” Ji Ming rattled off quickly.
“Oh, got it.”
After hanging up, I edited a text message to my uncle.
Me: [Ji Chaoyou and his wife are back in Beijing.]
Uncle: [Got it.]
After sending the message, I hurried to the address of Yichen Media.
Yichen Media isn’t a big media company, but it often releases exclusive scoops, earning quite a bit of traffic.
Upon arriving at their office, I was placed in a small reception room to wait.
As I waited, drowsiness gradually overcame me–spring lethargy, autumn fatigue, the ancients did not deceive me.
Just as I was about to fall asleep, the door suddenly swung open, startling me awake.
Before I could react, a figure rushed in and pulled me out.
“Quick, quick, take deep breaths, change the air!”
I opened my bleary eyes and saw that the person pulling me was Ye Shuo.
“Why is it you?”
“I should be asking why it’s you! Quick, breathe in and out, follow me, inhale–exhale–”
Ye Shuo was so anxious his face turned red, exaggeratedly demonstrating breathing exercises, looking somewhat comical.
I couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
“What are you laughing at? Are you okay?”
“I’m laughing because you’re a clown.” I was puzzled, “What could possibly be wrong with me?”
Ye Shuo finally calmed down, scratching the back of his head, somewhat embarrassed, “In the room… I released a sedative, originally meant to knock out whoever came in, but it turned out to be you.”
I quickly started taking deep breaths, “Damn, are you crazy? Why did you release a sedative?”
“I was planning… planning to knock him out, then tie him up and threaten him. If he dared to expose anything, I’d beat him.”
“That’s illegal, you know!”
“I know, but if he exposes it, your family, and you, would be criticized to death. I’m just thinking of you…”
Without a word, I hit him hard on the back.
He was stunned for a moment, then broke into a silly grin.
Damn, he actually enjoyed being hit.
“So, is this media company yours?”
“To be precise, it’s one of my dad’s subsidiaries. I’m just here under the guise of an internship to oversee things.”
Damn, what a small world.
The Ye Family is also a large enterprise, with numerous subsidiaries, not afraid of suppression by Ji Group, no wonder he dares to act so recklessly.
“So, you’re the one who wants to expose something? Why? Are you reporting your own family?” He looked at me, puzzled.
“The situation is complicated, hard to explain, and I don’t want to explain. Just tell me, are you going to publish the report or not?”
Ye Shuo pondered for a while, “I can, but you have to agree to one condition.”
“What condition?”
Ye Shuo said shyly, “Can we not break up? Can we stay as boyfriend and girlfriend?”
My expression instantly fell, almost rolling my eyes, “I didn’t realize you’re such a romantic fool.”
“It’s because I met you.” He was quite candid.
Then, he suddenly raised his hand, his expression extremely serious, “I swear, I won’t cheat anymore, I’ll focus on you as my only girlfriend. You can find other men, I don’t care, but I definitely won’t.”
I smiled helplessly, looking at the sincere eyes of the young man in front of me, I agreed, “Alright.”
Actually, I hadn’t thought that far ahead, just wanted him to publish the report first.
