Letting Go of Old Love, Opening Up to New Romance - Chapter 26
Sheng Boyu bought a ring and meticulously planned a proposal.
He said that although he hadn’t reached the legal age for marriage yet, we could get engaged first. Once he reached the legal age, we would go and get our marriage certificate. He said he wanted to keep me by his side for a lifetime.
I accepted his proposal, and our relationship was elevated from boyfriend and girlfriend to fiancés.
Sheng Boyu bought another car and often drove me to and from work.
Coincidentally, that evening he had something urgent to attend to and couldn’t pick me up. As I was taking a car home alone, I encountered Jiang Yu downstairs from my building, surrounded by discarded cigarette butts.
In my memory, Jiang Yu had always been a proud person, but that night, the Jiang Yu I saw was haggard and decadent.
He walked towards me, suddenly grabbed my wrist, and his bloodshot eyes stared intently at the diamond ring on my ring finger.
“You’re engaged?” A look of shock flashed across his dark eyes.
I replied calmly, “Yes.”
He suddenly went mad, reaching out to take my ring off. I pushed him away and took a few steps back, “Jiang Yu, look at yourself! What have you become!”
He continued to stare fixedly at the ring on my ring finger, saying angrily, “How long have you been with him? How could you agree to get engaged to him? I’m the one you’ve loved for ten years, and I’m the one you should marry!”
As he spoke, he walked towards me, as if possessed. In a moment of desperation, I raised my hand and slapped him hard. The ring on my hand happened to leave a scratch on his face.
Although the scratch was shallow, it still drew blood. However, at least that slap seemed to bring him back to his senses a little.
