Chapter 6
I lifted my gaze slightly, suppressing the turmoil in my heart.
My nails dug into my palm as I quietly looked at Julian Montgomery.
I noticed that his expression had somehow turned extremely unpleasant.
A somber darkness clouded his eyes.
He seemed… quite angry?
“Oh, right.”
I suddenly realized.
“Young Master Montgomery hasn’t fully regained control of his finances yet.”
“Then… Mrs. Montgomery?”
Mrs. Montgomery raised an eyebrow, her gaze flicking over Julian Montgomery’s face.
With a smile, she asked, “Are you sure you want to cut ties with such a good girl?”
Julian Montgomery pressed his thin lips tightly together, his Adam’s apple bobbing.
A dark emotion flashed in his eyes.
But it ultimately settled into defiant indifference, his voice cold and clear:
“I’ve said it before.”
“Agreeing to take over the company is my limit.”
“Anything else, even ten more years won’t change.”
“I can’t live a monotonous life just being with one person.”
“Too boring.”
A sharp pain pierced my heart.
Unconsciously, I clenched my fists.
Yet Mrs. Montgomery continued to smile.
Though her smile carried a deeper meaning:
“Oh, is that so? What a pity.”
With that, she took out a checkbook from her bag.
She began to write a check:
“Well, if the ability and temperament are lacking, they can be honed.”
“But love, that’s something you handle on your own, at your own risk, however reckless you choose to be.”
“As parents, the only thing I can do…”
Her words paused, and the pen stopped moving.
Mrs. Montgomery’s eyes curved gently, her expression warm as she handed the check to me:
“Is to round up the six million Miss Miller wants to a full ten million.”
“To add some warmth to Miss Miller’s cold winter.”
Ten million!
Honestly, without exaggeration.
The moment I took that check.
I felt warmth.
