Chapter 19
The driver got out of the car and thoughtfully closed the door.
I sat in the back seat, and before I could speak, a weight pressed down on my shoulder.
Julian Montgomery rested his head on my shoulder, utterly exhausted, and closed his eyes.
Instinctively, I wanted to push him away.
But the next second–
“Chloe Miller, I’m so tired.”
I frowned and moved closer to the car door.
Moved away from his support:
“If you have something to say, say it. Why are you here?”
Julian Montgomery’s head fell into the void, and he couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh.
Slowly opening his eyes, he leaned back in the seat and looked at me:
“To find something.”
I found it amusing: “What are you looking for this time?”
“An excuse.”
Julian Montgomery lowered his gaze, his expression forlorn:
“To find an excuse to come to you.”
“And then apologize, pursue you.”
“Until I win you back, or chase you to the end.”
“Anyway, it’s better than that night at the vast train station, with people coming and going, yet never being able to find you again, that despair and panic.”
A wave of indescribable fatigue surged in my heart.
I really couldn’t understand:
“Julian Montgomery, do you have…”
“A problem.”
Julian Montgomery coughed lightly.
He reached up to rub his temples, his face somewhat pale.
Yet the corners of his mouth pulled into a self-deprecating smile:
“Pretending to be poor to deceive you, that’s a character flaw.”
“Being stubborn and not admitting I love you, that’s a mental flaw.”
“I admit it all.”
“When I first met you, I was just a low-life, opportunistic scoundrel, no explanation.”
“Otherwise, my dad wouldn’t have sent me away for experience.”
“But… treating you as a stain, that wasn’t sincere.”
“At the time, I just didn’t want to admit that delaying my return home was because I had fallen for you, so I stubbornly found an excuse.”
