Chapter 16
I never expected to receive another call from Julian Montgomery.
Even more unexpected was that he knew I was leaving.
At nine in the evening, drowsiness enveloped me.
The voice coming through the receiver had lost all of its previous calm and coolness from a few days ago.
It jolted me wide awake:
“Where are you going with him?”
I glanced at the unfamiliar number on the screen and frowned:
“It’s none of your business.”
“You just need to know that you’ll never be bothered by me again in this lifetime.”
“Enjoy being your carefree young master.”
With that, I raised my hand to hang up the call.
But Julian Montgomery seemed to have anticipated it, his voice trembling slightly with urgency:
“Chloe Miller! Don’t hang up, don’t leave.”
“Don’t go.”
“Don’t go with him…”
I pressed my lips together, remaining silent.
My fingers lightly touched the red button to hang up.
My gaze then shifted to the car window, where the night was deep–
“Ryan Stone, stop sleeping.”
“We’re almost there.”
