Igniting the Spark - Chapter 27
My father followed Pei Yi. Of course-other than Pei Yi’s victory, our family had no other way out.
I guessed that, in order to atone for his mistakes, he would fight with extraordinary ferocity.
I didn’t know if he would be able to come back alive.
I didn’t go with the people Pei Yi left for me. The backup my mother arranged was waiting just outside the prison.
If not for tonight’s upheaval, it would have been them breaking into the prison to rescue us.
We stopped to rest at a manor in the western part of the city.
The sounds of battle in the Capital City didn’t subside until the third day.
The evening glow illuminated the Capital City, but I couldn’t tell if those crimson clouds were dyed by blood.
I thought my mother would be somewhat unsettled.
But she only said calmly to me, whether it’s a change of dynasty or a Revolution, how could there be no bloodshed?
Once again, I marveled that, when it comes to mental fortitude, I am far inferior to my mother.
After that, the entire city was placed under lockdown. My mother and I were quite content to continue laying low at the manor.
I don’t know how many days passed after that. I only remember that the wind was so cold that day, it felt like knives against my face.
My father knocked on the manor’s door.
I didn’t go home.
Instead, several Palace Attendants led me into the Imperial City.
Before I parted from my mother, she told me not to let anything sway me, and to simply follow my heart.
No matter what I decided, she would support me.
But I thought to myself, what if I don’t even know my own heart?
